Now that I am a bachelor, I need to do something with all these girly curtains around here. I tried looking online for curtains and valances but everything is just plain girly, and plain blinds just look cheap. Know anywhere I can find stuff like this for men?

Tab Top panels are the way to go. Add a bamboo shade underneath and it will look great. I would go w/ a solid color. Look at JCP.com, they are affordable and good quality.

Go for straight valances. I live in a house right now that was designed by a man. All the curtains are very masculine. The fabrics are a little thicker than usual and the colors are neutral with accents in burgundy, moss green and some have dark purple. They fall straight down on both sides of the window and the ties are closer to the bottom, only about two feet off the floor. The design I have is very plain and sort of fits with any style, either striped horizontal (makes your window look wider) or vertical or simple imprints in a single color. A couple of rooms have the curtains hanging all the way down to the floor, it looks nice and full in a living room for example. If you are looking for something more modern go for raw silk (or something that looks like raw silk but is much cheaper). The ones that I like have one color on top (like beige for example) and another toward the bottom (like the bottom 2-3 feet) a dark brown for example.

Most men prefer a tailored look..so I would suggest pinch pleat drapes, or tab top curtains...the look is clean, defined, and classy. Either way they will need to pressed before you put them up...if you go with drapes, take them to the cleaners and have them done, and ask the girl to have them pressed with "designer folds"...they will come on a special hanger with the pleats aligned for you, perfectly pressed. Hang them in the car if you can, and then put them up as soon as you can so they don't wrinkle. You won't have to have them washed or dry cleaned to have them pressed out. If privacy is an issue, drapes and sheer panels under the drapes...nice and clean and will make rooms look like the ceiling is higher because of the straight lines. Pick a neutral or dark blue color...goes with most furniture. If your ex does pass by..she'll wonder who did the window's for you...Take Care and Good luck.

Pier One and Cost Plus are two stores that carry "tab" curtains in plain colors, and/or stripes; I suggest you look at what they have in stock.

Good luck.
