Actually, it is not your hair that hurts but the scalp. I have had this happen too.
Make sure you are not using devices to keep your hair up like rubber bands or clips. They strain the hair follicle and can cause pain in the scalp.
If you have very dry scalp which is the case in winter months it can hurt if you are rubbing or scratching it. Get a good scalp moisurizer like the Dead Sea Mineral Products. Any scalp conditioner or moisturizer.
Make sure nothing is pulling at the hair. If this continues and you have long hair, shorten it. Try an inch and see if it helps. Long or heavy hair can strain the hair follicle and shaft. A short doo may help.

Hair doesn't feel pain for it is dead kerotin. It's your scalp that is hurting and it sounds like you have a sensitive scalp.

Don't wear your hair in styles that are painful (pulled up or too tight like cornrows and other kinds of braids).

Pain can be caused by wearing your hair up too much, especially if you have very thick heavy hair. Try wearing your hair down more, this should help.

Exercise it by brushing your hair with either a comb or brush. Your scalp is probably still baby-sensitive.
