No. Those poor little girls walk around looking like painted little hookers with these fake frozen smiles plastered on their faces. It is really scary. Why don't their fat, overbearing moms get their asses out there and strut around on stage and let us judge which one is the prettiest. Oh, yeah that's right THEY CANT because they are just a bunch of dried up losers who are living out their fantasies through their children. I have watched quiet a few documentaries on pageants and the little girls cry and beg to go play but their psycho mothers yell at them and tell them to suck it up and be still while they tease and curl their hair and cake their faces with make up. They are not allowed to just be kids, they are miserable. To me its a form of abuse.

I think it really depends on the approach. I was in quite a few as a child, as well as my younger siblings. Done properly, it helps a child gain poise, grace and enhances social skills. It also gives you confidence and pride in you accomplishments. We all have excellent grades, lots of awards and recognition from our community for service, and are all very physically active.
However, not all are so fortunate. You must keep it fun and light. I have seen a great many girls fall victim to stage mothers who foster unrealistic expectations and eating disorders.
So proceed with caution

NO WAY! It makes them self conscious for the rest of thier lives and makes them feel less adequate all the time for untrue reasons. WAtch the movie Little Miss Sunshine! ITs about pageants and family and its awesome!

As long as this is something the child want to do. It builds confidence and self-esteem and if you have a child that is somewhat shy it help them to deal with being out in the public view.
