People seem obsessed with their infallibility and self-righteousness because the humanistic society in which we live demands it to be so. Man has become his own god and it is imperatively his all-consuming duty now to feed that premise and act it out with every waking hour. There is none righteous, no not one.

You must know some really strange people. I don't know anyone who is concerned about self-righteousness - but a know alot who are very glad for the righteousness in Christ.

2. an unhealthy fixation
Obsessed with anything is always bad, but it is difficult to control one's obsesseion.

They are really probably in doubt about their beliefs. So they feel that if they say they are right enough times they will become right.
