I have the same hair issue.Try the ceramic line of flat irons by "Golden Hot" this is a mid priced iron that has high heat effects w/o the damaging effect that your co-worker may be referring to. Your local beauty supply store will be of more assistance with the selection of a ceramic iron. Also try to section your hair into 6-8 large pin curls and secure them with 2 long hair pins that will cross each other to make an "x" over the individual pin curl. Then sleep with a silk or satin hair scarf or satin pillow case to prevent any breakage over night. This may seem like a lengthy process but it works. If not do what the rest of us do and got to a professional for conditioning treatments and tell your co worker to worry about their own "crown!"

I straighten my hair all the time and let me tell you, it's the worst thing that I could have done to my hair. A few things you could do, if you want to keep iron idea, get a japanese straight perm, they last forever and keep your hair very straight!! Another idea is you could blow dry your hair straight and use a product afterwards that keeps your hair from frizzing up and keeps it straight. Hope this helps!!

Well, if your iron is made of metal, then yes, it will ruin your hair. However, there are many new straightners....ususally the expensive ones!!..=(.....which are made of ceramic. Cermaic heats the hair from the inside out, allowing it to stay healthy. I advise you straighten your hair when it's dry, as opposed to when it's wet.
As for how to keep your hair straight, heres a tip:
once your hair is straight, spray hair spray onto your hands, rub, and lightly pat your hair from cranium down to tips. NOTE: i mean VERY lightly...like barely touching
hope it helps!

Well any straightener will damage your hair some. But I have a wet to straight straightener and it works GREAT! I would recommend it to everyone! It keeps my hair straight and I just permed my hair and its like you can't even tell that I did!

Anything with heat sucks the moisture out from your hair and is therefore bad for it because it dries it out, weakens it and makes it prone to breaking.
When I was in high school I tried to blow dry my hair and iron it straight every day and it was so dull and lifeless - I later accepted my curly hair for what it is and let it air dry and it is so healthy and shiny and beautiful that I'll never straighten again. :)

Is your health healthy now? If so, I would limit it to a few times a week. It is damaging. If your hair is brittle, I would take a break for a while. Maybe seek advice from a stylist.
Also, how about some really good conditioner?
Good Luck

I straighten my hair everyday with a straight iron and it is healthy. I use Redken All Soft shampoo and conditioner and Redken Anti-Snap to keep my hair from getting fried.

Use a hair product and blow dry it while pulling it out straight with a brush. The iron will indeed fry your hair!

I love my Wet-to-Straight! Just use a heat protector on your hair to protect it from damage. This is what I use.

Condition your hair daily, deep condition weekly, use a serum on your hair before using the styling tool. Also use the shampoo and conditioner recommended by your stylist.
