He is only young and dislikes sitting in shallow water or having water sprayed on him.

It's his personality. Mine is the same way.

We have a mirror in the shower, and a little thing that suction cups to it. Sometimes when I have a shower I bring him with me and he sits there and sings while I shower. Then when I am all squeaky clean I pick him up and GENTLY get him all wet. He hates it, he hisses and pretends to bite me... But in the end he's clean, and I wrap him in a face cloth like a little taco. Sometimes he will protest by not drying his feathers and letting them dry all matted (haha)

Put a plate of water in front of him and play with it maybe put a few cheerios or some other thing he likes into it. He'll start by checking it out and may just end up liking it. Also if you're spraying your bird be sure it's a fine mist sprayer from a beauty supply store and not the harsher sprayer and don't spray too close. Good Luck! =)

My lovebird WAS the same way. I just would leave him a bowl of water for free will bathing. He would ignore it until he got a little bit older and now I can't keep him out of anything that holds water. Just give him the opportunities and the choice and he will eventually think that he needs a bath.

Hi there. I found that splashing the warm water with my fingers, laughing and acting really enthusiastic really helps. Since your bird is a flock bird, and you are now flock leader, he will follow your lead . Good luck and try it a few times. Some don't like being misted no matter what, but most can learn to enjoy a bathe. You might try misting yourself and acting excited. Weird concept, but really works. have a tweet year.

The next really warm day you have while the sunshine is streaming warm thru the windows, try to mist him again...lightly. Or you can also try hanging wet (dark green leaves, not iceburg) lettuce leaves on the top of his cage so he has to get wet to get them.

Get one of those shower things so you can take him to in the shower with you. They love that.
