So far, with over 1/2 million Iraqis dead because of the war, 55,000 CIVILIANS killed by our military, 3000 of our military killed, to recompense for the killing of about 2700 of 9/11, how many more people need to die in this war?

Isn't it enough yet? Isnt' there another way?

As for the "insurgents", there wouldn't be any if we hadn't invaded the country.

Was the situation there intolerable? I'd definitely say yes. Is it the responsibility of the United States to "correct" every intolerable situation in the world? I don't think so.

Just to set the story straight, I'm a veteran. I was serving during 9/11. I have MANY friends still serving, and many who served and are serving in this war. (as well as previous ones). I was also serving during Grenada. I'm not anti-military at all.

Details:

The number of civilians reported killed is here:
http://www.iraqbodycount.net/
They gather the numbers from public sources.

I got the other numbers from the January 12 issue of The New Hampshire Gazette, which states that they retrieved the numbers from the medical journal Lancet. This was research done by Johns Hopkins University. As I'm not a journalist, I haven't yet gone to all the primary sources. The 3000 dead American soldiers is a number I've heard elsewhere. We've already had more soldiers killed in this war than we had citizens killed in 9/11! There are estimates of over 30,000 soldiers having required medical evacuation. 2.5% of the Iraqi population has been killed as a result of the war.

It's just a very tragic situation. My heart is breaking. And as yet, no-one knows what our final goal is. What is the definition of "win"? It's changed so many times already.

The unfortunate truth is this: We started a war that we shouldn't have. Iraq WASN"T responsible for 9/11. Iraq had NO WMD. Bush and Blair had decided that whether or not they were found, the war would have started anyway.

The problem we face right now is what to do after we have picked an unfair fight, left the country in a shambles with NO working government, NO reliable infrastructure, NO working police force, NO significant military force.

How do you come up with a solution for that?

We screwed up, and there is no way to fix it. What do you tell a son who gets drunk, rapes a girl at a party, and then the girl gets pregnant. How do you fix that?

There are some things that you just can't fix.

Saddam was a cruel evil leader. What he did was terrible. So, to fix it, we decimate the country?

To the idiots who question my service: If you really need to see it, let me know and I'll email scans of service records for your prurient interest.

Is it beyond such simple minds to believe that the people who are required to do the fighting, or support those who are, are actually against the war?

What simple minds does it take to fail to understand that perhaps those in the military may actually not wish to fight?

That is a question you would need to ask the Iraqi insurgents. You are right they would be terrorist instead of insurgents if we hadn't invaded their country.
Ask Israel what happens when you let up on them. You obviously are not going to listen to anyones opinion. Maybe you should have started with let me give you my opinion and don't respond if you do not agree with me. Your facts are twisted, you do not want to know what everyone else thinks, and you will not stop until you justify your opinion. You also fuel the fire of the insurgents when you speak out against the administration. Do you honestly not understand that they are going to fight until there is nothing to fight for? Our choices are fight them there, or come home and fight them here. They chose this war we didn't and no one likes it. Some of us understand that we have to accept it while others refuse to understand or accept it. There are two parts to a problem, the problem and the solution. We are all one or the other. United We Stand Divided We Fall! If they don't want to fight they are in the wrong line of work. Why in the heII would anyone who don't want to fight join the service. I think the simple mind is the one who joins military but doesn't want to fight. They need to read the oath they signed when they joined. I can go over it with you if you need me to, but you should remember it.

Yes there is another way - white flag on a pole.
Just give up , wipe the sand off your boots , come home and ignore the terrorists.
They will just go away -right ?

My son was also in Iraq , he said the insurgents were animals and would kill anything including children to get media attention and slash the military's morale .
So what is your idea - you must have one ? You spent enough time typing out your facts and figures.
The room is your's - please present your idea or theory.

where'd you get your facts? 55,000 civilains killed by our military? Got any competent facts to back that up? Not the ones you got off the back of the Kool Aid jar...
I guesse if one of your friends or family or co workers was one of the 3000 people MURDERED on 911, you may have a different opinion.

You need to read the link you put up to justify your outrageous figures. The 55,000 figure is not people killed by our military, but a result of the war in general. If you view the data base, the vast majority of the 55.000 are civilian on civialian violence. Its also ALL still less than the numbers Saddam was responsible for.

Do you have a point to make or are you just going to spout off with useless statistics? For every war we've been in, I can spout useless statistics that make yours pale in comparison... that you claim to have served in our military is dubious at best. What do you think war is? People die, civilian and military. If you truly served, you would know that. You act as if this is the first conflict the US has been engaged in and that we should not have any casualties. How many more will die in this war? As many as it takes to end it and bring our troops home with an accomplished objective... same as any war.

You are not counting the hundreds of thousands of Iraqi people who were tortured to death (men, women and children) under the Saddam Hussein regime, or the multiple terroristic attacks that have taken place all over the world and killed hundreds of thousands more. This did not begin with 9/11...these attacks (like the USS Cole) were ignored by past presidents. Doing nothing led to 9/11

I apologize for my earlier comments that were uncalled for.

But let me ask a question. I know they found sarin gas. Is that not a WMD?

They also used some sort of WMD to kill the Serbs. I doubt he would have used it all, so he would have had some somewhere.

The 55,000 CIVILIANS that died were mostly insurgents.
And no, there is no other way.

If you truly were a veteran, you would know why we are there and wouldn't ask such an immature question in public.

It all going due to BUSH! Why dont u american people vote against him and his policies. You re-elected him in 2004!! I pray not this time atleast in 2008 if you want the world to be a peaceful place to live and dont want to increase number of enemies of USA.
The only solution to iraq-problem according to me is to quit from iraq and let them live on their own. US should withdraw its troops and if needed peaceful army under UN should be sent to iraq for the settlement of peace like in vietnam.

Give up your cell phone, give up your second car, give up your student loans, give up your fat free diet food, give up your freedom to practice your religion, give up your freedom to speak your mind, give up your birth control pills, give up your health insurance.......and then ask that question with a serious face.
