My 2 1/2 year old daughter is obsessed with soap (of any kind) lotions and chap stick. I've told her that soap is for washing only, and lotion is just for grown ups but she just keeps taking them and lathering up. I've had to take everything away and put them on the counter or top of the fridge. It is an inconvenience so I was wondering if anyone had any serious tips on how to curb this obsession of hers. The chap stick is not so bad as I can just stop giving it to her, but we need to have soap in our house. HELP!

Soap is cool. It's pretty. It makes bubbles, feels good, and smells good. Probably tastes good to her too.

The bigger a deal you make out of it, the more she'll be obsessed with it. I liked that other comment about giving her a special dispenser jsut for her. Go to the store and let her pick it out. Fill it with diluted baby shampoo. Encourage her to wash her hands, but set special times when she can, like once an hour or after potty. Make it into a game and play with her.

Once it's not forbidden and she's explored it, she'll move on to something else.

maybe the reason why she does it is cuz she sees other women (or men) using soap. so she uses a lot of soap. but the soap dries her hands out. so she uses the lotion to make them not as dry...try getting her a thing of the foamy soap and tell her that as soon as this ONE bottle is done then she can't get it anymore, so she might use it sparingly.

Get a special soap dispenser just for her. Get a special soap just for her. Let her know that those are special and just for her and no one else. Then water down the soap so it last longer.

give her a stern no, and if she starts complaining/crying, threaten to spank her. If she doesnt stop, then bring on the beatdown.

seriously the best way to show a kid you mean business, and by far the best way to get one of that age to behave.
