You don't want to train a dog to run deer. What you need is a "jump dog." Buy some deer scent. Tie a rag to some twine, put enough scent on it so you can make a trail. Drag the rag on the ground in an irregular path out about 100-150 yd. Place a treat or a reward. Let the dog sniff the rag and then encourage it to follow your path. After the dog gets to the reward enough times, they will know what is expected of them. Take the dog out way before the season and let them practice. Call them back after 150-200 yd. and give them PLENTY of praise. I had a black & tan that would chase deer into the next county. She might come back that night. Sometime I would have to lay my hunting jacket on the ground & pick the dog up in the am laying on the jacket.

I've hunted rabbits with beagles for years. There is now not a greater dog for it. We generally will take new dogs out on hunts with skilled ones. It most likely takes a few season of looking with skilled animals for the newby to rather get into the game. It's high-quality to discover a dog with good looking mom and dad. Generally it can be just in their blood and they turn out to be educated very speedily. Take them out and allow them to run! After a kill, continually show the puppies what they finished. This now not best is nice motivation, but in addition allows them to recognize that they're executed jogging this exact rabbit, and it is time to discover a new trail. The brand new dog will scent the rabbit and get a greater inspiration of what's going on and respect the scent they had been following on the trail. The extra this is strengthened the better it'll be trained what to do. Excellent success
