Well, since it's semi-formal you actually have a lot of options open to you. Wedding cake is certainly appropriate. Rather than some extravagant 5 tiered monster with a fountain, you may want to go with something a little more simple and elegant just because they're nice. It helps if you know how many people will be attending because that will give you an idea for size. You don't mention when you'll be having the event. Warmer weather or cooler weather will make a difference too. Raspberry swirl cheesecake decorated with flowers or carrot cake are both good choices but really, whatever you decide, go ahead and enjoy the cake you didn't have on your wedding. It is perfectly acceptable to have a traditional wedding cake. You are, after all, celebrating your wedding. Congratulations on your first year and I hope you have many more.

Happy anniversary, and may you have many more years of wedded bliss! First anniversary was the most fun for me -- I loved the "paper" theme and found it MUCH easier than later years -- try "steel" which was the 11th, I think. Geez. But I digress. You might get creative with the "paper" theme with your cake. For example, put tickets, money, or a stock certificate on the cake -- anything paper that your husband would like as a gift. Good luck, and have a great time at your party!

You mentioned a semi-formal affair. Then maybe you'll like the idea of a three-tier cake that both of you can complete what you missed out when you got married.
Happy Anniversary!

I like the red velvet cake idea...If you are going to do a more formal celebration now, go for it...the sky is the limit! Have fun at your party and many happy returns of the day...
Whatever cake you and the groom like the best...my husband and I both like carrot cake so, that's what we'd have but it would be really neat to serve the cake that you both like the best...

I would say search out your cake specialty places... or order it from a grocerie store. Which is great! You dont have to worry much about it, and typically the simpler cake the better.
I loved my cake that we got on our wedding.. it was from Konditor Meister- its concidered "Best of Boston 2005"-- and it was the best! Depending on how much you want to pay, you could go with that-- but if your looking for a cheaper good way to rock.
I suggest to keep it simply on the "money saver " side I would go to the local grocerie store and order a large cake. Your choice of color, type of cake etc.

If your having family and friends I'd have both white and chocolate. These can be sheet cakes. If you want a small wedding type cake make that the standard white.

I don't think you can really go wrong here.
Whatever is your favorite flavor!
My cake decorating friend told me that fresh flowers around the cake make the biggest bang for the buck. They can make any kind of cake look more sophisticated and beautiful.
Happy Anniversary!!

for my brothers wedding in June they had a 3 tower cheese cake and it was beautiful, and DELICIOUS. so if you r having a big shabang you should try one of those but if you are having a little night together you get a small chocolate on chocolate cake and share it.
