Some people have tried to use Isaiah 44 to suggest that Christmass trees are idols.
-------------------------edit---------------
Some peole have also used Jeremiah 10:2-4 to suggest that Christmas trees were idols, as noted by the guy above me. You might find this article on the subject interesting:

Jer 10:3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.
Jer 10:4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.
Jer 10:5 They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.
Not Christmas trees but trees of worship.

Yep. Jeremiah 10:3-5 "For the customs of the peoples are just an exhalation, because it is a mere tree out of the forest that one has cut down, the work of the hands of the craftsman with the billhook. With silver and with gold one makes it pretty. With nails and with hammers they fasten them down, that none may reel. They are like a scarecrow of a cucumber field, and cannot speak. Without fail they are carried, for they cannot take any steps. Do not be afraid because of them, for they can do nothing calamitous and, what is more, the doing of any good is not with them.”

Jeremiah 10; Pagan cultures was real big on bringing in trees and worshipping them especially evergreens which to them was a symbol of eternal life. Decorateing them with balls and lights and string ornaments. It was mainly done in sun worship.
God cautioned the Isrealites against such practices because it was false worship and it also included sex worship. Idol worship.
They were big on worshipping things like cows, trees, stuff like that. It was never stopped completely it was just to ingrained.
Some cultures still do it to this day.

Jeremiah 10:2-4: "Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not." (KJV).
But that doesn't mean you can't have a Christmas tree, in my opinion. The people Jeremiah mentions are superstitious Pagans who worshipped trees. Don't worship your Christmas tree.

Yes, I've read it many times, and used it humorously at Christmas. But it's actually a reference to making an idol, and has nothing to do with decorations any more than cleaning fish has to do with animal sacrifice.
