My boss keeps distracting me at work by blaring his totally uncool music while I am trying to work. You'd think that would degrade productivity enough as it is, but what's worse is this music comes from his iPod, and he isn't remotely close to being an audiophile (he's partially deaf) so all the songs he plays sound like they were recorded in a closet. On a side note, if anyone can point me in the direction of an invisible digital voice recorder so I can archive his "American Idol"-worthy solo performances, that would be great.

Well, well, well Mr. Toot. Let's set the record straight. You were playing around on the internet instead of getting the requisite amount of work completed. Your boss had a choice - he could unemploy you or try to take a lighthearted approach - play a little music for the first time in a month and chastise you via some humor.

Let me also add that your body odor today was rivaled you know who for the worst in the branch.

Add it all up Toots. You smelled bad and you were goofing on the internet instead of working. You more than deserved to have your ears pierced by a deaf singer playing music two generations removed from your vomit rhymes.

Tell him if he wants you to get any work done he's going to have to tone the music down because your having a hard time concentrating. Do it in a nice, polite manner and there should be no problem. If he is even a little deaf he may not realize it is bothering others.

the boss is:

the person who was hired because they wanted the job

it has no barring on the fact that he can't do the job~ it is only relevant that he wanted to be hired to do the job

all over the world this is the number one problem and it is a bait & switch psychology situation under the duress of confrontation

u can't get to his brain from yours~the underachiers and the overachier are in conflect with the methodologies of who was your regulator@~this is real behavioral science language cause i like to move quickly, so here is your way out ~ if u know that he is hearing impaired, don't run a guilt trip on him for it, but c if you can: ask if his batteries are dead?or are the batteries in your hearing aid low? this question will hit home+this will alert him of your level of perception+if he has normal anticipation of your quest he will address the volume thing as a inquiry of what is the percievied difference that you are getting and what he is getting=this will give u time to prove your case=don't give him a guilt trip= but make it known u are six times more aware of the volume than he is and , he will ask you to assist in showing the difference and lowering it to bring your peace of mind into focus

It would be best to take it up with his superior.

Emphasize how you can't work well because of the distraction. Don't make it a critique of him or his music choices, make it about the noise level.

If your boss is the ultimate boss where you work, take it up with him, again, emphasizing (perhaps apologetically) how it interferes with getting your job done.

If anyone works near you, get together with them, and ask for a music-free office.

i recognize how you experience. that is so stressful in case you do not look after the music they are taking area in on the volume they play it at. i in my opinion might want to tolerate it somewhat than risking getting battered or shot. you're in user-friendly words there for a short time, so pump your gas and get out of there as quick as you may. that is ashame that each and every State do not have the upward push container regulation. we've that right here contained in the State of Florida yet the position is a officer once you want one correct.

do you not want to listen to music? i mean your own, of course. like why not take your own music? i would recommend the hallelujiah chorus, because you wouldnt hear his any more. if not.... perhaps when he puts his ear phones in... scoot (assuming scootable) your chair close to his. but... the trick is to do it really slowly, like a foot every 10 seconds or so, depending on how far away he is from you. and then... get really close, and sway from side to side. close your eyes. nodd your head to the beat, and begin to hum the song. slowly progress to singing. and gradually increase your tone, until it is fairly loud. keep doing this. every time he puts them on. or... when he is not at his desk... steal it. take it home, put it in a jello mold, and give it back to him. not only would it be funny, but it would probuably rouine it. kills two birds with one stone. if all of these do not work... i recommend buying a pet fish and naming him after your boss.

Ear plugs or just tell him to lower the volume, it's distracting you.
