dentists earn between 95,000 and 150,000 a year. Dentists who own their own practice earn more (around the 150,000 range) with dentists who have specialtys being able to earn around the 200,000 mark. Dentist in clinics earn less.
according to salary.com an orthopedic surgeon salary averages around 311,000 a year.
Just a little fyi, both medical school and dental school will through you in some debt and the programs are also VERY competitive. You need high GPA and lots of good looking extra curriculars ( think Habitat For Humanity) just to be considered.

They make big money, that is why they are so independent. As far as digging holes in a person's mouth... it is more pay than digging a cemetary plot.or ditches. Not too many dentists are starving. That is their choice of profession. If they do not like working with a nasty or healthy mouth, get out of the profession.

I hope they get fat paychecks. If they went through many years of college and have a successful practice, they deserve a fat paycheck.

depends on where you sign on to start, with a clinic 5 figures, you can defiantly work your way up to 6 figures though
