Only in your mind. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. We are born again only through our children. ~

Yes, I certainly believe they do. (No matter what religion you practice I might add.) Of course in Ásatrú (my religion) ancestors and loved ones who have passed on are greatly honored. It's not uncommon to pray to them or to set up a shrine for them with candles and whatnots to honor them. I feel this is an important thing that many people nowadays neglect to do. The Japanese practitioners of Shinto also do this I believe. I always toast my ancestors and loved ones who have died at the Sumble.

You should pray only to the father. read Matthew 6:9 model prayer and ask it in Jesus name.
Ecclesastes 9:5 says the dead know nothing at all.
they are not conscience anywhere.
John 6:40 says and I will resurrect him at the last day.
Judgement day. Which is still future. So they are asleep in the grave awaiting the last day and a future resurrection.
so no they cannot hear you, or see you. Pray only to the father.

ok

wife's brother just killed himself

(wife currently with family until funerary services end Sunday)

this really sucked. He was not the person we thought to kill self, but for whatever reason, he did

I felt MY soul or self reaching out to him, but not sure if he could hear, not sure if he was a figment of my memory or his impact upon my mind and past

so in a way him dying phisically impacted my thinking, but he lives on with my memories and how his mannerisms and photos captured his pure spirit

as I type I am sad

I am atheist but am still sad at my loss, our loss

I may pray to self and think praying to him, but know that likely he is no longer save our memories, but just me wishing others would not do this

his decision, his life, our loss but can't undo

my prayer or thought for Isaac

There is one Mediator between God and man that is Jesus Christ. Pray to God alone in the name of Jesus. You passed loved ones had to do the same.

hahaha, no how could they? They are dead. There bodies are in the ground, and there souls have disintegrated into nothingness. There is nothing after death. The mere thought is absurd. So no, they could not possibly hear us.

Some cultures believe in praying to their ancestors--Japanese for one. Catholics pray to "saints" who have died. This practice is another form of idolatry. There is one God and his name is Jehovah.

We don't pray to dead loved ones, we pray to our Heavenly Father in Jesus' name.

Dead loved ones can't help us. only Jesus can.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.

John 16:23
