What a gorgeous dog! I just read the blog at the link you provided and I just want to weigh in on the Duchess situation because I see stuff like this all the time. I do some volunteer work at the city shelter and people bring their dogs in for ridiculous reasons, but I think it is counterproductive to argue with these people. When a person has decided that they don't want their pet, I really would prefer that that pet finds a new home where they ARE wanted. As irresponsible as it is for people to not commit to the lifetime of their pet, I believe it is more irresponsible to hang onto a pet that probably is not getting very good care. These are not the worst people a shelter has to deal with, because these people care enough about the animal to be realistic about their own desires and limits. I really worry about the people who are so callous that they take on a pet that they don't want to keep and then don't even care enough to try to rehome it when they realize their mistake, their life changes or whatever reason they have be it bad (it sheds, I wish it was a different color) or good (I'm dying of cancer, it wants to kill my cat).

I see people argue with owners who want to give up their pet and though I understand WHY you would try to talk sense into someone, I would hate to create an environment where terrible pet owners who through one reason or another find themselves with an unwanted animal feel shamed into keeping it -- poorly.

So good luck, Duchess! I am sure she will find a wonderful home to live out the rest of her life in high style.

I'm so sorry, I don't live any where near there, if I did I would come and get her. How terribly heartbreaking! We adopted a sweet little Pomeranian from our local shelter 13 years ago, and she lived until this past August. You are so wonderful to post her story, I'm sure some kind person will adopt her. Have you yourself thought of fostering her until she can be adopted? Good luck and God Bless!

It is stories like this that make me HATE people. I would choose dealing with a dog, over dealing with a person any day!

Try posting it on petfinder.com

I know how you feel though. My girl was spayed, got her vaccines and brought back to the pound after a month.

She is part whippet, part pitbull.

And she "chases cats".
