If it's someone you don't really know, I would skip the movie because you can't really spend time getting to know each other. But the dinner part is a great idea. Maybe something fun afterwards like mini golf.

I think dinner is always good because you can get some talking in here and there, but I'm not a big fan of a movie on a first date. I think having dinner and then taking a walk is better. Because this way you can get to know the person even more and get closer. I think a walk along a lake or a park is a good way to go, especially at night.

I think dinner and a movie is a great first date. I suggest the movie first because it gives you the chance to get comfortable in each others presence without the pressure of having to talk. And then...when you go to dinner after, you have a great conversation opener! Have fun!

Dinner and a movie are great for the first date, or any date that comes after.

I don't like movies on the first date because it's such a solitary activity. Not much getting to know each other gets done.

You might try a museum, a live dinner theater or dancing. Anything where you are still free to hold a conversation.

Save the movies for when you don't want to talk anymore - like after you're married.

Dinner and a movie was my first date with my husband of soon to be 8 years. I think its maybe one of the less stressful ways of going about a first date.

Absolutely fabulous way to have a chance to talk and get to know each other. The important thing is to plan the times so you won't be rushed. Use your very best manners, dress nice, talk nice, keep it all very up and up--I mean safe and comfortable. Please let her pick the movie. Enjoy it regardless, then escort her home on time and do not expect anything more than a thank you...if she plants a kiss--you did OK. Keep yourself tame--smile and be entertaining as well as a good listener. Man you will be a real popular guy ---can't go wrong doing the right thing. Have fun

Movies are for steady girlfriends. Ever try to talk inside a theater? Nuff said.

First date? You already met? If it's a first meeting, Starbucks or something is good. If it's a "date", then dinner someplace quiet with small tables--you need let her talk to you.
