I have to go there in febuaury and I hate to drive

Sorry, but the best way to get to Bishop, California is drive. That's just the way it is. Its about a 5 hour trip going the speed limit. Any other method is going to take ALL day and cost a lot of money.

SHHHHHH! (truck driver's secret) If you leave L.A. any time after 10:00pm, you WON'T see any CHP between Mojave and Lone Pine, and only one between Lone Pine and Bishop. It's so secluded that they just don't patrol it.

If you are adventurous you can reach Bishop by public transportation. The Metrolink rail system can take you from downtown LA to Lancaster from there Kern Regional transit brings you to mojave/Ridgecrest and the Inyo-Mono county shuttle brings you the rest of the way. It takes most of the day to do the trip but is relaxing and low cost at about $10 grand total one way.

I suggest you fly into Reno
as there is a bus service that will take you from Reno airport
to Bishop
its called the CREST route
and heres their website with fare and schedule info
