Battery drain is common with digital camera. As far as the other problems, have it looked at by a camera shop.

You probably did not charge the battery right. The first 2 to 3 times you charge your battery will deteremine how long it will last. If you do not FULLY charge or OVER charge (meaning leaving it in a non-smart charger for over 24 hours) you will permenatly damage your battery.

When you first get a battery, put it in a charger and FULLY charge it. Remove from the charger as soon as the charger says the battery is fully. Use camera till the battery is dead or near dead. Then recharge FULLY again and remove the battery within 12 hours of when it is fully charged again. Then again use the camera till it is dead of batteries or dead. If you do not charge rechargable batteries properly it will build a "mermory" that may/will affect your battery life dramaticly.

You probably shot the battery, get a new one and follow the sets in your manuel on how to charge it your batteries properly.

If your camera uses AA size batteries, then you need to buy good rechargeable NiMH batteries(2500mAh) plus a charger.
Or you can buy non rechargeable AA size batteries, but they need to be LITHIUM (Energizer e2).

Cameras need lots of power to run and ordinary batteries do not have enough power to run a camera for very long at all.
