not if you truly want to beat the addiction. it takes a good 2 years of being clean to beat the physical addiction from those types of pain meds. switching to another prescription drug is surely not the answer.

It depends if you were on lortab for medical reasons or ujust abusing it. I have been on a low dose of methadone along with my lortab.........When dr suggested this i freaked and told them i wasn't a heroin addict. The doctor assured me that the lose dose of methadone is used for chronic pain so that you will not have to take as much pain killers. The amount of methadone they give people hooked on heroin one dose is like a whole month of methadone for me. So maybe they are trying to help with chronic pain not for addiction just depends on your case.
I take 5mg of Methadone 3 times a day and 2-4 lortabs a day. I used to have to take about 12 lortabs 7.5 a day just to tolerate the pain in fact i believe my system was just getting used to the lortab it made me speed up and then i would do more physical things which would cause more pain and the cycle continued.
The low dose of methadone needs to be taken same time daily to keep in your system.
Heroin addicts are given liguid methadone amounts that would count for a whole month of my prescription so it is not like that at all. I did read the other answers i believe they were way of like i thought when the dr first mentioned it.

NO DON"T. you will end up worse than a lortab addiction. I will tell you this I am in recovery for 7 years now. You want to try cold turkey Cold turkey off methadone. I have cold turkeyed, hydocodone, morphine& methadone. Do that a few times and You will get very negative feelings about taking them again. all the people that want to get opiates I fear what the consequences will be for it's use. It willall kill you.

Teresa, ask your Doc for a reduction dosage plan. Methadone is addicting as herion, but 3 to 4 times longer to withdrawl from.

no..methadone is a opiate pain killer wich is stronger than lortab..and is more addicitive..
methadone is a schedule 2 opiate..wich is like fentanyl, oxycontin, and morpheine..
it is used for heroin withdrawl..heroin is stronger than any of the above mentioned..
usually, you would be given something like ativan to beat the cravings of the lortab..

I would go to a doctor or rehab center to break that addiction. I would leave it up to them to determine what I would need to take.
