honestly? not as bad as u might think. they out a small clamp on ur tongue then put a numbing solution on it (like a freeze spray). then they very quickly put the needle with the bar attached to it straight through and screw the ball onto it. thats it! all done!
it might make u jump a little but its mainly pressure u will feel... maybe a little sharp prick.. but thats it... the worst part is that ur tongue will swell afterwards... i had to drink soup through a straw for 3 weeks lol.... before the swelling started me and a friend went for some chips right after getting it done,,, it started swelling when i started eating... it was the funniest site ever watching me push whole chips to the back of my mouth and trying to swollow them whole lol!
im gutted i havent got mine anymore.. i took it out when i had the baby but im thinking of having it done again!

If it's done properly, it shouldn't hurt nearly as much as biting your tongue. The tongue muscle is striated from back to tip. The needle slips between those striations without doing nearly as much damage as a bite. When I was pierced, I actually didn't feel the needle passing through my tongue, but it may have been because I was expecting it to hurt much worse than it did. After the piercing, it became a very intense throbbing ache that lasted for a few days. The pain in the days after are usually worse than the actual piercing.

why go through all the pain and suffering of a pierced tongue, when all it is going to do is rip the enamel off of your teeth causing even more problems than just a couple of taste bud senses ruined? If I was FORCED to do it again, I would commit suicide rather than do it again. I have decay of my lower teeth (I brush and floss with a mouth rinse 2x's a day) and I have no sense of taste on my sour taste buds. All of these problems arose when I got mine done. So good luck to you.

if you really thought about it, you would not do it.
do yourself a favor, when you go to sleep tonight, and you are real comfy under the covers (and you have had a good long shower), close your eyes and ask your higher self if you should do, "what do you see", let your subconscious talk to you and share with you....if you relax, you may be surprised at some insights that have been delivered to you.

the actual piercing isn't so bad it is afterwards that it hurts. It gets swollen and sore. But it is not unbearable. I have mine done in two places.

It's really not that bad, it's sort of like when you bite your tongue and it's over really fast. then it will hurt for a couple days, and you wont be able to eat anything except soup.

Don't do it! A doctor was just telling me how dirty and nasty it really is..that it is actually the WORST place to get pierced..People have lost their tongues because of it...do your nipple...if you lose your nip, you won't talk funny.

My cousin and most of my friends have their tongue pierced, they said they were givena really strong mouthwash. It tasted really disgusting, you're so focused on the disgusting taste you really don't feel it then.

The tongue is packed with nerves and receptors. It will hurt a lot. Don't expect to eat, or talk for a few days.
