I have been dating this man for 17 months,now he says he needs time to think..and if he wants to get another girls phone number he dosent want to feel guilty about it...Is he saying he does not want to see me anymore,also he says when I can come down to see him...

maybe, he's thinking he doesn't want to lead you on anymore? he doesn't want to see you anymore, he just wants to see a whole bunch of other girls.

It sounds pretty bad actually. I would just give him space... if he says this, it's almost the same as 'I don't want to go further'...
Yeah, I know 17 months is a lot of time together, but it sounds like he's having second thoughts. Maybe tell him how you feel about him, and just let him be... putting the pressure on him could cause him to run, maybe the only hope of salvaging the relationship is letting him come around on his own... and even then it might not happen just as you want it to. he sounds like he is having doubts about your relationship. And as a result he wants to feel free to as you say get a girls number and not feel guilty. hoever you should not make him feel guilty for getting a girls number, however if he calls her or they meet up then you make him feel guilty if you love him and he you.
but to be perfectly frank here. he may mean that he does not want to date you anymore he feels there is something wrong in your relationship that he can not put his finger on so rather than try and fix the problem he is wanting to dump you and move on.
the classic line i don't want to lead you on normally means i think of you as a friend not a lover or to that effect.

17 months is quite a long time and if he now is saying that he would like to have other girls numbers without feeling guilty to me that is not a good sign, do your self a favour and dump him, show him that you have feelings and not prepared to be messed around (such after 17months) sorry to say but it sounds like he could be heading down the dumping street for you, get in first girl and find a decent guy.

It sounds like he wants his cake and to eat other cake too. I would make a clean break and start afresh with a man who will give you all his attention. You will find the right man eventually. There are lots of decent guys out there.

doesnt sound too good! maybe he has collected a few tel numbers already and wants a bit of room to date them, i think he is keeping you hanging on in case they dont work out, i hope i am wrong but men just seem to have a problem with getting straight to the point

I think basically he wants to have his cake and eat it, tell him thats fine and u start people 2, whats good enough for him is good enough for you and u never know u might find someone who after 17 months knows what they want and doesn't lead someone on like that.
