I'm off to Thailand in a few weeks time and I can't decide between spending most of my time in Phuket and Krabi or Koh Samui on the Eastern Seaboard...anyone been to Thailand who might have some helpful suggestion would be much appreciated. They all look great to be honest, I wish I had time to see them all!

Thanks for all your answers, I'm leaning towards Koh Samui...I heard from a mate that Phuket is the equivalent of the Costa Del Sol in Thailand and that has put me right off!

If you are plan to go "Fullmoon party", then you can not miss Koh Samui. Phuket is also a very nice place. Well, you will have fun !

Koh Samui is cool, but go to Koh Phangan! It's about an hour boat ride from Samui. I spent a week there a few years ago and had a fantastic time! The people on the island were super friendly, and if you make friends with the locals, they'll take you round the island nearby islands. The beach at night is a lot of fun! Great music, people playing with fire, ample alcohol.

Phangan is a lot smaller and laid back than Samui - Samui had a starbucks when I was there, Phangan had nothing like that! Of course, this was 5 years ago, so who knows now! But I had a fantastic time.

Have FUN!!!

You are welcome to Thailand. The most recommended place is Phuket, second is Koh Samui and third is Krabi. Phuket, a paradise island of Thailand and Koh Samui, a hilly island and a nice destination. There is no doubt, a lot of activities and entertainment are wating for you there. Here below you will find my two contents regarding Phuket and Koh Samui, perhaps you may get some ideas about these two islands. Have a nice trip to Thailand.

I guess it depends what you're after. I went to Thailand for the first time last year, and I have to say it's not somewhere I would necessarily have gone, but I was meeting my partner there while he was travelling. We chose to go to Krabi because it was the less well known of those three places and we hoped it would be quieter, which it certainly was.

We spent two weeks there, alternating our days between relaxing and getting out and about, and had a lovely time. The geology of the place is amazing and there are plenty of day trips to a variety of different places. We had to do the James Bond trip as my other half's a big fan and went sea-kayaking a couple of times as I do that at home anyway. I'm not a big clubber anymore so the bars around where we were staying were enough for me. The food was absolutely gorgeous and that I do miss - I'd go back just for fresh coconut juice and watermelon shakes!

Whatever your choice, I hope you enjoy yourself.

Easy......Krabi.
Been a while since i last went but Samui and Phuket are far too commercial for me and full of hookers and lager louts. Krabi is a bit more peaceful and scenic but not sure about the damage from the tsunami. I would go to Kho Tao which is a small island next to kho pha ngan and kho samui, some lovely snokelling and peaceful beaches (nighlife only available on the main strip - cant remember name)

Krabi is better for me. There are a lots to see. also the islands are very nice!! Kho Phiphi i love the most. Somehow, if you want to go to Phuket, you can take a boat from there only 2 hours and its cheap!!

I'd go to Phuket since it offers such a lot. On top you can take day trips to Krabi/Samui or other nearby islands to scuba dive/snorkeling etc. Have fun!

i've been to phuket and would not go back
it is very expensive, commercialised
however there are good boat trips from there into the clean water where you can go snorkelling ith all kinds of beautiful marine fish
there's plenty of cheap sex there to if thats what floats your boat
never been to the the other islands but i suspect better than phuket
