Each person has their own pain threshold. How do you deal with pain or discomfort. To me, I have 5 tattoos, and I'd rate the overall pain about a 4 or 5. It will be more uncomfortable in areas that have thinner skin and aren't exposed to much sun.
I once got stung by bees 5 times, and I think that hurt more than my tattoos. To me, it feels more like a sunburn. If the person is tensed, it will be more uncomfortable. If the person is relaxed.. it will be less uncomfortable.
It just depends on how the person deals with pain, where the tattoo will be placed, and how nervous the person is.
When i got my first tattoo, I remember saying "wow that wasn't as bad as I thought it would be."
Hearing everyone talk about how bad it is, rating it a 10, is obviously going to cause some anxiety about it. So, really, keep in mind that even though someone said it was extremely painful for them, it likely may not be with you. It all depends on how you tolerate pain.
Good luck~

It depends on where you're getting your tattoo and on your artist. A good artist knows just how hard to push the ink in and knows when to move on to a different area. I don't want to feed you a line of bull here. Tattoos do hurt ....but it's the kind of hurt that you can live with. The closest thing that I can compare it to is ....... if you have very been around someone who was grinding metal it throws off this little sparks (of burning metal). Getting tattooed reminds me of these small sparks falling down on my skin over and over. It helps me if I have something to distract me. If I have some one to talk to it distracts from the discomfort. Some people tell me it hurts worse if they watch while they're getting inked.... personally I've found that if it really starts hurting, watching just exactly what he is doing that hurts so much helps take away from the pain. I'm scheduled to have nine hours of work done (in one sitting) next month. The longest I've done before in one sitting was about two hours. Sooooo if it hurt that bad... I wouldn't be doing it. Look at it this way. You are getting a PERMANENT piece of art put on your body.......it should hurt...... the best things in life are often the hardest and most painful things to achieve. But worth it in the end.

The pain of a tattoo depends on 3 factors....
1. How you personally experience pain. Some people think things hurt more than others.
2. How heavy handed your tattooist is.
3. What body part you are tattooing.
I fell asleep during 2 of my 5 tattoos. I found a touch up to be more painful than the actual tattoo.

I got a tattoo on my inner wrist, about the size of a quarter (a yin yang) and I was surprised at how painless it was. A 2 or 3 on a scale of 1 to 10, but I've heard that they hurt more over muscle areas.

Tattoos hurting depend on where you get them. My boyfriend worked at a tattoo shop and the places people would say it hurt the most were on the lower back bc of the nerves all meeting there, knee or elbow and any spot where there is usually more fat than muscle (ex the stomach, side etc.) but it also depends on your thresh hold of pain; some ppl might say it hurts there and you might not think so.

A tattoo feels just like someone taking a needle and sticking it in your skin and just pulling it threw your skin..So does that sound painful?? It depends on the person and how much pain they can take..some places hurt more then other places..I have tattoos and love them..Yes they hurt but it is an addictive kind of pain..You want it again..I will sure get more!!

I think it depends on your tolerance for pain. I had three
c-sections, and to me the tattoos (I have two) on my ankle and lower back were just as painful as the c-sections. I don't like
pain at all so for me I would rate the pain of a tattoo to be a 10!!
I agree with woodymae don't belive the ones who say a
tattoo does not hurt.

No they dont hurt at all, it is what it is, grab a needle and poke yourself with it lightly, now imaging someone carefully poking you a millions times over. Its not that bad at all, depends where you get it also, if its on the lower back its alright, arms are ok, neck is a litle timid, ankles is alright, anywhere where you dont have that much flesh, its going to hurt, say behind the ears, lol. =)
Good luck.
1-10... It would be a 4. Although it is different for everyone.

Depends. My lower back tatt and armband oh my! I would rate those suckers a 9 easily! I've given birth twice with no drugs, so I know pain, lol.
On the other hand, the tatt I have on my shoulder blade barely hurt; was more like a burning yet soothing sensation.

it really depends on which kind of tattoo. the perminant ones hurt alot more than temporary ones. on a scale of 1-10 for large and permanant tattoos, i would rate 8. They arent torture but they use sharp needles ( on machines ) and pour the colour and shape in to creat the tattoo on your body. For the temporary and smaller ones, i would rate 1, they barely hurt at all. what they do is they paint it on a sticker and they stick it on your arm. wait for a while and voila!
