Because of the trinity. There is one God, yet the idea of the trinity, though not the word itself, is found throughout the Bible, like in the way that you alluded to. We finite creatures cannot fully understand an infinite God, but it can begin to be described as 1 x 1 x 1 = 1, only, both sides of the equation at once, if that makes any sense. Remember, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. One God in three Persons. Separate but one. The Father is not the Son, the Son not the Spirit, and the Spirit not the Father, yet all are God and are ONE God. Again, we cannot understand it, and I could be wrong on a few points, but this is basically one way of looking at it.
Mark 12:29 NIV
...Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.
Hebrews 1:8, 10 NIV
8But about the Son he [God the Father] says,
"Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever,
and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom.
10He also says,
"In the beginning, O Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth,
and the heavens are the work of your hands.
I hope that this helps!

Your right is a plural word. but what does that word mean. El, Elo, or Eli (from the same root Allah) refers to the father, the person who is God. -him is plural for "powers", all powers. So basically Elohim means "father of all powers", or "Father the all powerful". Elohim is not a name, but a description. "God" is also not a name, but a position, like president. We really don't know God's name. In history their have been some cultures who were rumored to have God's real name; but it was never spoken because it was sacred. when the societies died (due to different reason's) the name, and the pronunciation left with them.

I found this in my NCV Bible- it was explaining the Trinity. Its like a flower with 3 petals. Each petal is separate but the flower is singular.
God the Father, God the Son (Jesus), and God the Holy Spirit are the same way.

Many ask this as they dont seriously study Gods word. The Godhead is a title. And the Bible tells us there are three operating as one. God the father, God the son, and God the Holy Spirit. all three working as one. blessed trinity.
It seems complicated, but upon much study, it is not difficult at all very clear. All three are God, and Bible is clear on that, tho ppl want to deny it. I have the scriptures that show it. Get a good Bible concordance, look it up and see whats there.
Just like ice and water. have to have water to become ice. It gets veryinto it once you study it and its so plain.

because christianity FAILED to preserve the truth!
and God did not STOP them from believing in a lie.
Eloihem also has reference to the Godhead, and the angels of three differenct creations exist as part of the same godhead.
the term here, as i understand it refers to EVERYONE that participated in the creation. Including the The 3 that reign over this earth and the arch angel Michael with Gabriel and the other angles that do the works of their faith and holiness.
There can only be ONE saviour for this planet but there are 3 that rule. There are indeed MANY gods in heaven, but ONLY ONE For us.
