Hi there...brushing the cats more often will lower the amount of shedding they produce in total, cat foods which are devoid of corn, corn meal will improve their nutritition which also contributes to higher shedding problems. Most commercial cat foods contain these ingredients so look for products such as Innova EVO, Nature's Variety Prairie, Nutro, Felidae, Wellness...etc. which are do not contain corn or byproducts.

My cat's shed a lot from just being short-haired, I can't imagine long haired. But, what I do to prevent it as much as possible is a bath once a month, control shampoo specifically, then make sure to brush him very well as soon as he gets out, then try to brush him as much as possible, every day, when you have the time. Also you can get cat wipes! You can just wipe him down with that a few times when you get the chance, and that reduces shedding a lot also :)

brush and roll your cat daily (if not possible 2-3 times/week). And they make a cat food that is supposed to help prevent that and give them a shinier coat.. if you cant find one at a petstore ask your vet.. may want to invest in some hairball treats just for prevention.. cats that shed frequently tend to be prone to hairballs.. good luck!

The answer is simple... brush your cats and brush often. At least weekly for long haired, a little less frequent for short hair cats.
