This might not be O.C.D, it could be insomnia. Secondary insomnia to be exact... But when I am even incredibly tired, I can not sleep unless my surroundings are completely, 100 % Silent! I sleep with earplugs, which don't even help. And I have this weird phobia of clocks, and I'm beginning to think it's because of the ticking. I can hear a clock ticking from the other end of a house! And when i do, it sounds as if it right by my ear, & i go insane! I take every clock down and elimonate the batteries!

I've tried ambient music, and it helped me get very close to falling asleep, but still, the sounds kept me up! I go absolutely mad when i hear the slightest sound! However, once i fall asleep, i can sleep for days. Unless... I hear something, or the door opens to the room im in. That's another weird thing. I CAN NOT sleep unless all of the doors are closed! Once they open, i awake. It's so odd. Am i just really anal about my sleeping, or is there some sort of disorder i'm dealing with?

Look, anyone here can offer you advice, but you should really talk to someone. It could be OCD, it could be severe anxiety, it could be PTSD, it could be a lot of things. Anytime something bothers you like it is doing, something is wrong. What's most important immediately is that you get the rest you really need - that's really the most important thing. I completely understand how you are feeling and the worse it gets the more obsessed you can become. Try taking some over-the-counter sleeping tablets for a few nights - like Tylenol PM - to try and get some rest. Then after you've had a few good night's sleep see how you feel again. Try it for a week and see how it goes. If at the end of that time you still feel all the anxiety then think about seeing a therapist for some help. One thing I do know, is when I'm tired and can't sleep I hear every blinkin sound the earth makes as it rotates - it is so easy to obsess when you are tired. Close up your room, move the clocks, make your sleeping place as comfortable as you can. If you can't sleep, then get up and do something like read to help your mind relax. Reading always makes me tired and many other people too. Don't drink anything with caffeine for the next few weeks - no soda, coffee, teas (except herbal). Eat some turkey and potatos -turkey has a natural sedative called L-tryptophan that naturally relaxes you, and potatos (not fried but baked or mashed) are strangely calming too). Try to get some rest and see how you then feel. Good luck.

You must see a Dr. you may be depressed and/or there may be some kind of sleep disorder here. Only a sleep Dr. can diagnose a sleep disorder. If there are other underlying issues that are bothering you perhaps seeing a couselor and some one on one therapy will help you get to the root of the problem. I think you are or could have a phobia caused from??? not sure, you go have a physical and see a couselor. Remember sleeping is about feeling safe if you do not feel safe then you will not be able to sleep. Take care, Heather

Go to a doctor. I'm not qualified to diagnose you, it sounds like you might have some kind of psychiatric disorder, it might be OCD or something else. There are medications that can help, but you can't get them unless you go to a doctor.
