i would try fastweb first, also the first two links i have listed have a TON of info on them. FAFSA is a gov grant, and i believe they will pay for any education. call some of the state colleges and ask for the finantial aid dept. then ask them if they have any info for help (tell them you are considering their school).
http://www.osfa.state.la.us/
(click on the subjects on the left also, great info there)
try to aim for grants/scholarships more... they are not to be paid back. its confusing sometimes, but just keep applying.
every big (and small) company you see (manufacturer, orgs, corps and groups also) all have grants and scholarships they hand out like candy. Walmart, Kmart, Target, Coke, computer companies etc etc etc
heres a link with a HUGE amount of some available. some you will need to copy and paste into a new window. also, fastweb (take the time to fill it in) will search databases and get back to you with a list of scholarships you qualify for.
Also contact all mens, womens associations in your state, they almost always have grants & scholarships. What ever field you are going into, contact the orgs, associations etc for them; Also check with professional organizations related to your career interests, such as the American Bar Association or the American Medical Association. they also always have scholarships. Research and dig, call then write. Its all worth it.
OVER apply; it doesnt hurt to have too many, and the extra funds can help with housing.

Yes, there are thousands of scholarships for just about anything including wearing duct tape to the senior prom. It might be an idea to expand past your state borders to locate a business scholarship. All of these sources are free to locate scholarships and free to apply for a scholarship.
First, current high school students can locate local scholarships at the guidance office.
Second, the individual college financial aid office has a list of private scholarships offered from outside organizations and companies. Sometimes the college major's website will list scholarships, too.
Third, the public library has a book listing scholarships with some of them listed not on the web.
Fourth, apply using the FAFSA form because it will tap into need based financial aid from the state and federal governments along with the college itself.
Finally, join several free membership scholarship search websites. It lists scholarships based on college majors and just about anything else. Most are updated on a regular basis. Most offer a customized search based on information entered into a form on their website.
Good luck!

First, I'd like to explain that I am a liberal Democrat and I am an open-minded person, but I think I have to disagree with almost everyone else here. I would just flip this, to a heterosexual person discussing their sexuality in the scholarship essay. It just wouldn't be appropriate, I think, for anyone, lesbian, transgender, or heterosexual really to discuss sexuality in a scholarship essay. I mean if you really want this scholarship you have to consider your readership and the purpose of this scholarship. I think your experiences will still inform the essay, but I wouldn't focus it solely on your sexuality if you really want the scholarship, because I think at least two or a few of the scholarship committee would probably go with another choice. I do think it might make a great topic in a creative writing class or later in a short story or book you might want to write, but for a scholarship you really want to obtain that is a different story. Sorry.

1. Talk to your librarian.
2. Talk to the financial aid office at one of the colleges you would like to attend.
3. Go online and search for scholarships.
There is a large quantity of funding available to you in any field of interest. You need to spend the time hunting for it.
