Hmmm, when I read this, I immediately thought of a candle.
To perceive this, I would think maybe a candle burning with fire (no fire, no "burn out") with the wax melting all around it. Maybe almost till the extent it is about to be gone. And have a person cup the bottom of the candle or maybe on a table, taking it from a side, so the candle is on one side of the photo.
I think that is quite a nice idea, but it's up to you.

make a collage of Kurt Cobain and Neal Young. (of course Def Leaopard has this line in "Rock of Ages" also, but it's impact is less dramatic. AND also Johnny Rotten AKA John Lydon, obviously has a large part of it, however that part is nearly irrelevant. Have pics of Kurt and Neal, both in thier clean upper class look, and in thier grungy look. Try to make it about a poster bourd size. if you have some good digital software, make the picks from about the middle to the right side begin to fade to just a barely visible pic, while the left is bright and vivid. Set the mid to to upper left side on fire. Be ready with some flour or some dry method to extenguish the fire for any retakes. Once you pic is taken to perfection, send me a copy.

When you said burn, I though candle, so why not an old style candle that has almost burned out and has lots of wax around it, find a color for the candle the best represents what you are looking for.

get a picture of a burning subject whatever it is with flames just consuming one side then put that photo on photo shop and have the opposite side become gradually dimmer and dimmer until it is nonexistent.
