I just used listerine that i put in a dixie cup. After i used the listerine, i noticed that it began to eat away at the cup. On the bag that the cups came in it says that it has a leak resistant coating. Is there anyhting harmful in this that was dissolved by the listerine?

I mean is it possible that anything from the cup that was dissolved is harmful, not just the listerine.

Listerine's active ingredients are: menthol, thymol, methyl salicylate, and eucalyptol. Ethanol or grain alcohol

The only safety concern involves the idea that the alcohol in it (26.9%) could make it easier for carcinogens to cause oral cancer, but both the American Dental Association and the U.S. National Cancer Institute agree that it "is safe and not a factor in oral cancers"

The alcohol in the listerine probably did it.

Probably a thin coating of wax. It shouldn't hurt you, but call the toll free number on the package if you're still concerned, or check out their web page.
