Almost all male U.S. citizens, and male aliens living in the U.S., who are 18 through 25, are required to register with Selective Service.
If you do not register, you could be prosecuted and fined up to $250,000 and/or be put in jail for up to five years. Registration is also a requirement to qualify for Federal student aid, job training benefits, and most Federal employment.

Apparently college only gets you a year's deferment at most if you're a senior these days. But if there wasn't any need for a draft when we started fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq, there won't be one now unless something really, really bad happens. Think World War III level bad. At which point, there may not be any place that's truly safe. Besides, there's no guarantee you'd pass the physical or that they'd make you serve on the front lines anyway, especially if your college education gives you skills that would make you more useful elsewhere. So take the minimal risk and get your financial aid.

"it is true that you have to sign for selective military service if you want to get financial aid?"
Yes, as it is the law to register anyway. As for a draft, only time will tell.

All males have to register for the selective service when they turn 18, whether applying for financial aid or not. It is the law. There is not a draft (and won't be, don't listen to ppl who say there is), so you don't have anything to worry about.

You are supposed to sign up when you turn 18, regardless of anything else.
There is not a draft going on so don't worry. And if there ever is, are you scared to serve your country that is giving you financial aid?

Last I checked all males 18+ are required to sign up. Doesn't matter if you are seeking aid or not.

You have to sign up when you turn 18--PERIOD.
If you are in violation of this law, you will not get financial aid.
