Yes, its convenient, and proper way to cook, collect and measured all ingredients, before you start cooking.Do you want to
run in the kitchen, here and there searching and measuring ingredients, while your dish is on the flame waiting for stirring......do you want your dish to get burn?

I find when cooking at home, that it does help to have things readily available. Its also good to get as much of your cutting done at the same time, and also save the meats for last so you dont contaminate other products. It depends on the meal though too. If you have something that is going to cook for 3 hours, and the rest takes only a few minutes, plan your prep work to the cooking time.

That will take up a lot of counter space. I've found that cleaning up as I go is the most efficient way to cook. Start with whatever takes the longest to cook, prep and put into the oven or whatever. Then clean up and move on to your next course going from longest cooking time to shortest cooking time, cleaning up after each.

I'd recommend prepping everything ahead of time - Mise en Place. Everything cleaned, cut and marinaded as needed. Put in bowls, paper plates or ziploc baggies so they're ready for you to cook in the order you want.
Depending upon your menu, you can decide the cooking order and the timing.

If you have the space yes. If not no. If you don't get out what you need immediately and know where the other "stuff" is. That way you can cook faster.
