You stand a decent chance of breaking your 3rd and 4th knuckles, and a good chance of spraining your wrist. Don't be stupid and wrap up your hands/wrist, wraps are real cheap. This is assuming you know the technique of making a fist and throwing punch...

I hit the punching bag(banana bag) all the time without using gloves nor wraps. I have been doing so for years. No injuries. As long as you know how to hit you'll be fine. It will toughen your hands. I would also like to point out that I dont wail on the bag or hit it as hard as I can. I save that for the focus mitts or thai pads. I just hit the bag bare handed when practicing style and technique. So if your just practicing on a bag, dont worry about the protection, you'll be ok. If your working on strength and really hitting the bag with all your might, then yes put gloves or wraps on by all means.

Thats definetly a dumb thing to do. Like he said above me, just buy handwraps for like $6 or some bag gloves (which usually come with the heavy bag). Theres a reason they made them.
You could break your knuckles, or at least cut them up pretty bad.
