All of 5th Ave? Probably a little over 2 hours. I've walked the length from 91st down to 34th many times because it was my walk back from school when I was younger and it took me about 40 minutes, and that was with my backpack and everything. It is sort of silly to walk down 5th Avenue by Central Park without just walking through the park, so start at 59th street and then walk downtown to the Flat Iron Building on 23th and 5th. On that walk you will pass all of the fancy stores, Trump Tower, Rockefeller Center, St. Patrick's Cathedral, The New York Public Library, The Empire State Building, and the Flat Iron Building. This walk should take you about an hour and a half, but you can drag it out by looking in stores or whatever else you want to do along the way.

If you walked from 143rd Street to Washington Square Park on 8th Street it would be like 6 Miles.
For a Window Shopping/touristy walk, Try from Grand Army Plaza (59 & 5th) (the Plaza Hotel/ the South East Corner of Central Park/ The Apple Store) down 5th to 48th Street (Rockafeller Center/ St Patricks Cathridal / The American Girl Store/ Saks)
On that stretch is easier to walk downtown, because it is slighty down hill.
Or even continue downtown to The Empire State Building at 34th Street.
---- Or maybe the "Museum Mile" from 82nd to 105th streets

It would take a real long time, if you were window shopping.... I am a big fan of long walks in NYC, and 5th Avenue seems as good as any ...I used to often spend a couple of hours walking home from 14th to 77th, or later when I moved to Brooklyn I once walked from Carroll Gardens all the way to Columbus Circle, to get exercise and walk off tension. That took pretty much all day. You should figure on spending several hours, and wear extremely comfortable shoes.

It's about 6.8 miles and would take around 2 hours if you start at the beginning by east 8th street and walk up all the way. Although I can't imagine why anyone would want to walk that far up considering the upper part of 5th avenue is in Harlem. I would suggest starting around 17th street and ending on 60th if you are shopping or walking up to 90th if you want to see the buildings.

You are crazy to want to walk anywhere in New York. I would have to say, it will take some time. But add another hour because the streets are always crowded with people. I think it is more dangerous walking in NY than driving.
