They can't, the bible says so.
1 John 4:20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?

What a great question! I have long felt that the only way for religious people to be true to their faith is to actually DO something. Instead of creating dissent, insisting on their own way, harrassing others, making up scientific facts and judging who will go to heaven or hell, they should be showing their love through their actions.
Christians, in particular, think too much about what is the right way to believe. Forget all the dogmas and precepts and laws and rules. Go out and do something that spontaneously issues for a good heart.
If god put people here for a reason, then it is not to worry about getting to heaven but to love one another. Through actions, not words.
And blah blah blah.

Of course you can serve your fellow man and woman. Each time you say good morning, hello, excuse me, may I help you? Thank you. Those are all services we make to one another. Plus think about it when you call a friend. You feel good and so does he.

I agree with Erectus. Christians need to change their actions so that they match the words.
Show how to be a real christian by your actions. I have seen so many christians being abusive, committing adultury, stealing, lying, being proud, being jealous and often putting down other people.
Stop trying to be the best little christian when you should be showing how you love your neighbour, by giving to the poor, helping in or donating to a food bank, soup kitchen, or a thrift clothing store. Show how you love your neighbour & your kids, not spanking the kids and allowing people to disagree with you instead of telling anyone who does not beleive that they are going to hell.
If your actions do not show your beliefs, then you are a hypocrite. How can non-christians accept your words when your actions do not match your words?
The golden rule we ALL should be living by is
Treat your neighbour as you would want them to treat you.

This is true. But how do you know what other folks are doing or not doing. Don't judge.
