Once every 2 weeks, before you shampoo your hair, get it wet, and then pour some organic red cider vinegar into your hair (making sure it gets on your scalp), rub it in, and let it sit for about 3 minutes. Rinse it out, shampoo/condition as usual. The vinegar smell goes away within minutes, so don't worry about that. Vinegar balances the pH of your scalp, and dandruff will disappear. It also contains salicylic acid, which helps too. You can get organic red cider vinegar at Trader Joe's (and some grocery stores) for less than $2. This also makes your hair super shiny and healthy looking.

Dandruff comes from a dry scalp. many dandruff shampoos can actually make your hair and scalp dry. In the long run, it can make a dry scalp worse.
Try Olive Oil Shampoo and Conditioner by Regis (you can get this at a Regis or Smartstyle salon). It costs a bit more, but it's very good. If you don't have a Regis or Smartstyle in your area, try a beauty supply store. Anything than has olive oil in it is really good for your hair and won't make it greasy.
Or you can massage a little olive oil into your scalp a couple times a week. Leave it in for a few minutes and then wash it out with a mild shampoo and lukewarm water.

Try an avocado/mayonaisse mixture. Might as well use guacamole on your scalp and let it soak into your head. Make enough that you can eat some with tortilla chips while your head is soaking up the moisture.
Share with your dad, you want to blame the dandruff on him, so go through a cleansing forgiveness rutual by sharing your chips and guacamole. You probably want to wash it out right after or next week, you'll be posting a question about acne on your scalp.

You might have psoriasis. Head and Shoulders, Selsun, all those "dandruff" shampoos work on the fungus (yeah, gross, I know) that causes regular dandruff.
But it does squat for psoriasis. Try a salicylic acid shampoo, like Neutrogena T-Sal (just use the generic if you can find it. The name brand's no better!) Start with a 1 to 2% level of salicylic acid (like Neutrogena Healthy Scalp) and try 3% if that doesn't work. I like Psoriasil by Home Health (pricey and hard to find--you usually have to get it from health-food stores or maybe online) but it's good. Also Dermarest products--drugstore. It's good too. There are also lotions and foams for between shampoos.
If OTC stuff doesn't work, go to the doctor. There are many options and I won't say they all work, but one might. It's worth a try.
Oh, yeah, try T-Gel or generic versions first. T-Gel has coal tar in it, as does...mmmm...Tegrin? MG217? Read the labels. Denorex, maybe. Try the coal tar first, then salicylic acid. But skip ones that have "refreshing menthol". They sting like a mo-fo. Coal tar stinks...whaddya gonna do? You'll smell like a campfire for a while. Coal tar works on regular dandruff and psoriasis to some extent.

It may not just be dandruff. Some people have exzema, a common skin condition, that could be the problem. I have it and so does some of my family... it's VERY normal. The best thing to do is wash your hair every other day. Your scalp needs oil and over washing will make the dandruff worse. Good luck!

a lot of people think they have dandruff but it's just dry scalp-and they dry it out more with that head & shoulders crap. try Paul Mitchell's tea tree shampoo, it's a really good cleansing shampoo but not soo harsh. it will leave your head feeling minty clean-trust me, the hardest person to convince is my fiance and he uses it every day! : )
(I use it once a week too when I feel like my hair is greasy or too built up from all the products I use)

My dermatologist recommends using Selsun Blue. He says to shampoo with it every other day. When using Selsun Blue, leave it on your scalp for at least 5 minutes. If your sense of smell is offended by Selsun Blue, he says you can use a different shampoo after rinsing out the Selsun Blue. He cured me with this method.

Tea tree oil rubbed into the scalp before shampooing and vigorously combed through! Shampoo with Paul mitchell tea tree shampoo. I have done this for my 10 year old son and it really works!

See a dermatologist. Over the counter is not helping. Could be from dry skin from this time of the year.
