I fully believe in ghosts and think they can sense them more than see them. Most ghosts are a "Presence" rather than image.
I haven't had the experience of a dog and a ghost, but I HAVE had the experience of having an aunt who owned a house that was haunted.

I had an experience involving a dog and a ghost once. I cant be sure (since dogs cant talk) but i think maybe he could see it?
To start the story off, i was minding my nan's dog at her house while she was away. She's always said there was a ghost in her house and although 4 other people had seen this ghost I was sceptical cos i'd never seen it.
Anyway, one night the dog started whining and barking and being really annoying. He just wouldn't settle. I was a little worried about his behaviour and cos he was peering through to the front of the house i let him through to show me what he was going nuts over. He ran straight to my nans bedroom and started barking and growling outside her door. I was kinda freaked out by now. I opened her door and turned the lights on but there was nothing (visable) there but the dog started cowering behind my legs. He was scared! so much for my brave guard dog! anyway, apparently whatever was in there walked past me and he started chasing it down the hall. I definately got the impression he was looking up at something (he's a jack russel so not big) as he was restraining himself to stay infront of something and his eyes were locked on whatever he saw.
I'm sure this 'ghost' or whatever it is is friendly enough so i ended up putting the dog outside to leave me and the ghost alone. Poor thing...

Probably a 6th sense. Dogs, cats, and especially birds can perceive things that we can't. Like just before earthquakes hit. This is a scientific fact. My brother had a german shepherd that would sit in front of the door everyday--15 minutes before my brother would come home from work. It wouldn't be the same time everyday either. My brother was always on call and would come home at different times of the day, and the dog would sit there at the door waiting -- 15 minutes before my brother's arrival. Whether dogs can percieve/see "ghosts", well, that's up for speculation.

I feel just as people not all dogs can sence gohst. I use to see them when I was younger, but I don't now. Now I can see and feel things as they are happening. It doesn't happen all the time. And as anyone who has a gift will tell you you can't know or get everything all the time. Dogs have a super sense of sound and smell you have to keep that in mind.

The answer is most dogs could. Although just because your dog is barking at random stuff, doesnt mean there is a ghost. Like my Jack Russell Terrier, he barks at soda cans and the broom.
