Doctors, sleep specialist, teachers, all say TV in a child's room at night only causes problems. ask your child's doctor. Kids do NOT get a restful night sleep with TV. Some kids 'sneak' and get up in the middle of the night to pop in a DVD and fall asleep as the TV is on. Your child has not learned bedtime is bedtime. She is testing limits now, and it is time to hold firm. Send her off to her on bed when she gets up and goes to her brother's bed. If your family 'feels bad for her'. she is probably picking up on this and manipulating the situation so all rally around her. Stand strong!!!

My 3 year old son goes to bed with a T.V. on every night, I don't actually use it for his entertainment I usually put on Nick at night because by the time he goes up to bed Full house or Roseanne is on I turn the volume all the way down and then he can't hear it either, I use his T.V. as a night light because his room is very dark and I can't seem to find a bright enough night light for his room, I dont see anything wrong with what I do, they say that people who let there kids have tv's on in their bedrooms don't get good sleep but he gets plenty of sleep and never really watches it!

I have never done it and would never. I know people that do and a friend of mine does it and has a horrible time with them getting out of bed at night. They can't fall asleep on their own without noise so when they wake up and the TV is now "off".. they can't get back to sleep. They get in her bed every night and the ages of them are 5 and 8!
It's good for a child to sleep without the disruption of TV. It makes for a better nights sleep, and teaches them to fall asleep on their own which is something they will need to learn .. it's a life lesson.
It sounds to me more like your daughter is having some separtion anxiety.. not a hard time falling asleep. I would not lay on her floor.. I'd put her to bed and keep putting her back in until she stayed there. She knows how to get what she wants.. and sympathy is not lacking. Don't feel bad.. she needs to sleep in her own bed and fall asleep on her own.
Good luck!

I have to totally agree with Bobbi! We bought my daughter one of those disney princess tv/dvd combos for her room..It was great at first but then she would only go to bed if she could watch a movie! We started a very bad habit because then she would watch one movie and then if she didn't go to sleep she would expect to watch another one! If she got up in the middle of the night she would pop a movie in at 2 am and then be dead tired when she got up the next morning! We eventually just had to remove the tv out of her room and got her a cd player..Music works great and it's relaxing so it's more likely to help put the kids to bed! Good Luck!

My daughter is 2 and I have never done it. When I weaned her from nursing at a year old, she had to learn to go to sleep without me. All it took was one night of putting her in bed, and letting her cry for 5 minutes and she fell asleep. To this day, she goes right to bed most nights. If not, she protests for no more than a couple minutes. DO NOT GIVE IN TO HER, or she will manipulate you. Bedtime is bedtime. Having a routine also really helps. Watching tv before bed can actually make it harder for the brain to settle down. there should be low lighting, quiet activities, and no tv for an hour before bed. I also play quiet, soothing, instrumental music in her bedroom. It stimulates certain areas of the brain that can make your child smarter, as well as calms her by providing background noise that isnt loud or stressful.

My son would never go to sleep with the TV. My son didn't sleep through the night until he was ten months old or so. Maybe she's just not ready. How about one of those aquariums that you can attach to the crib side. It has music, and lights, and she could watch the "fish" until she falls asleep?

my girls are 8, 5 and 2. During school holidays and weekends or non school nights we let them go to bed and watch a movie. On school nights we are strict and they go to bed at bedtime with no tv, music...etc.
Before they where at school they would have a movie on when they went to bed, once it fiished they had to sleep, most of the time they already was asleep. This didnt always happen as when we moved states they didnt have a tv for a long time in there room.

No way. My daughter is only 10 months, but we started already with her going to bed alone at her bedtime. She gets to take a stuffed animal with her and we usually play music when she goes in her crib. But that is it. and I am going to keep it that way. There is no TV in her room. She may have one when she is older, but never for at night. I was never allowed to have TV when I went to bed, yet I managed to go to bed and fall asleep every night just fine....Ditto for my hubby. We plan on raising our daughter the same way.

I don't let my 3 year old fall asleep in front of the TV. Once we stayed in a hotel with adjoining rooms and I left the TV on in her room so she'd be more comfortable. In the morning she had huge bags under her eyes... she stayed up pretty much the entire night. I felt bad for her.

Both my kids have T.V's in their room. Though my son will turn his T.V off and go to sleep my daughter falls asleep with everything on. I am not sure if there are oppositions to this method but I find that they are both relaxed and it helps them sleep. My daughter watches movies like the Lion King, Aladdin or other Disney movies. I have no problem with this unless it is getting really late like 10 or 11 in the evening. You may just need to use what works or use your better judgment on this one.
