hi there....i have never been on a proper date in my life and i am going on one this weekend. i have no clue what to wear though and i am getting anxious. what is the "norm" for men's clothing on a date to a restaurant. in particular what kind of underwear do men wear on dates, if any (i have heard women like men with no underwear....) anyway....and should i wear a shirt or a vest? and do i need to wear trousers?

my honest opinion is to wear whatever makes you comfortable as long as you look smart cos if you feel comfy then chances are you will enjoy yourself more

I really hope you're kidding about the underwear...please wear some :-)
Honestly, just be yourself. Wear whatever you want...either she'll like you that way or she isn't worth the time. Just pick out your favorite shirt with decent pants.
On a side note...if you smell good that means a lot more than what you're wearing.
Trust me on this one.

It depends on the girl and the venue - if she's a trendy/hip down to earth type and your going to a funky wine bar and resteraunt then you dont want to be in shiny shoes with shirt and trousers with a tank top.
probably nice shirt, jeans, shoe/trainer cross things

It depends how fancy the restaurant is...
But you should wear at least:
- clean jeans or cargo pants.. (like preppy beige kinds.. )
- a polo shirt.. or a casual dress shirt (collars please)
- clean shoes
- shave!
If the restaurant is fancy
- black dress pants
- dress shoes
- a nice dress shirt...
i didnt hear anything about wearing no underwear but boxers are sexy

it depends on the restaurant, but just wear what looks good and is comfortable, if u havent been on a proper date before then dont worry about what under wear you should wear...

Personally I'd go for those elephant undies that you put your willy in the trunk, then a pair of cowboy chaps, and top it off with a "muff diving instructor, first lesson free" t-shirt!

Whatever attracted your date....well something similar and clean. Underpants are a must. You don't want to look too prepared if things get sweaty.

definitely pants ...... seems like your idea of not wearing trousers is good, you are very courageous, but always wear pants !!! It will stop a lot of friction,
