It depends on the type of steroid - you didn't specify what the treatment (if any) is for.

Sex hormones (Oestrogen & progesterone in females, testorone in males) are steroids naturally produced by the human body. Oestrogen and progesterone are also present in the birth-control pill which is sometimes prescribed for HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy), where a woman either does not produce any or not enough of these hormones herself, as well as birth-control.

Corticosteroids are used to treat inflammation, skin disorders. As such they are relatively harmless with few long term effects - the main one is the possibility of allergic reaction, commonly when used as a cream or ointment for the skin.

Anabolic steroids, however (depending on the dosage) can cause massive weight gain - some athletes and body-builders use them to gain the weight, they then train to turn that into muscle. Long term usage of anabolic steroids can have unwanted side-effects such as the development of breasts in males and hirsutism (abnormal hairyness) - in unwanted places - in females.

Hope this helps

Increase of facial hair
Testosterone imbalances (may cause bi-polar disorder)
Larger, more spread out muscle mass
Energy (very short term)
Crashing (no energy) after a month or so

Also anabolic steroids will cause blood clots.

Depends on the steroid.

If you talking about synthetic testoserone enhancing steroids like Winstrol and Stanazol, then...

Upsetting and shutting down of natural endocrine system production without the drugs, mood swings, agression, etc.

Long term, endocrine system dysfunction, cancer, telogen effluvium, osteoporosis etc.
