i'm not black, but my hair is REALLY thick and when i had sooper long hair, i used VO5 to keep the oils down, but now i have my hair short, and i want it to be like that all the time, and i heard about relaxers, and my other option is chemical straightening, but i hear that that is really bad for your hair. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

A relaxer comes in a form of either a type of gel, lotion, creme, or soap which contains ammonia thioglycate. The ammonia thioglygate acts as an agent to disband the curls, or relax them which then makes the hair straight. That is how the relaxer got its name. A relaxer sometimes comes in a box such as a hair color usually would. But a relaxers and chemical straightening methods are not the best solutions for everyone. They are definitely not the one size fits all kind of deal if you know what I mean. To play it safe Instead of relaxers or chemical straightening methods what I suggest Is you use a quality curling iron in which the heat makes the hair straight. You know what I mean the heat generated straighters. They are your best bet because they do the job with less damage. After you straighten your hair use a leave in conditoner and you will be fine. With these tips you will look fab and glam!! You have so much more options than you think!

A relaxer is chemical straightening that comes in usually a cream form.

They can be *extremely* hard on your hair. Just make sure that if you have it done, your hair is *very* healthy (take vitamin E tablets or a vitamin with biotin in it). Then go to a salon that specializes in relaxers.

You'll have to get regular touch-ups and weekly deep conditioning treatments.

Or as another more healthier option, you can use a flatiron, or have a stylist cut it with blending/thinning shears if you just feel that your hair is simply too thick.

A relaxer is a chemical straightening product used by African American women to make their hair straight. I would avoid using it if you aren't AA or mixed. It can be very harsh, especially in the hands of an inexperienced person.

a relaxer makes your hair straight, but does not necessarily thin it out. you might want to go to a hair salon to have it professionally stripped to make it less thick

a relaxer isn't only for blacks, it will make your hair straight but if you don't take care of it, your hair will fall out.
