I was a cutter too - still have the scars all over my hands and arms. I also didn't want to tell my parents because they were under too much stress. Funny thing is, they knew something was wrong, they just didn't know what, and that added to their stress. I know it's so, so hard, but you need to get help. This doesn't go away. I fought getting help for years - hence all the scars I'll have forever. Once I started going to therapy it got better. I had a release for the pain. My parents understood. Well, not really, because they weren't cutters, but they weren't mad - they were actually relieved because they could finally help. Please, please try to find someone to talk to. Email me if you want to talk, or have any questions or whatever - please. I've been there. Don't be ashamed - you'd be surprised how many of us there are. Take care!!!

Your guidance counselors may tell on you, but are there any other adults that you know you can trust, like maybe a friend's mom or something? Talk to someone, anyone. Even one of your friends could help. You just need to realize that there are other ways of dealing with anger, depression, or pain that are less dangerous and that won't leave you permanently disfigured. Trust me, when you grow out of doing that, you will wish you didn't have the scars to remember.
If you can't find anyone to talk to, try this hotline:

First of all.. please.. try to stop cut yourself, you will end up with scars you horribly regret when you are older! Instead if you feel you cannot talk to anyone, write letters to the people you wish you could talk to get all your feelings out, and when you are done righting them crumple them up and throw them away, it feel so much better when you do it, also you can write in a diary, write song lyrics or even scream or cry into a pillow. It will feel much better and won't have the life long regret that cutting does, giving yourself physical pain is only a temporary escape from emotional pain and can never help you in positive way.

Doctor-patient confidentiality only allows a mental health professional to disclose information if you say you are going to harm yourself or others. Talk to your guidance counselor, I am sure you are not the first person they have encountered with this issue. Good luck!

You don't say how old you are...so that kind of limits the answers. Let me just say...been there, done that. You need to find a reliable and trustworthy psychologist or psychiatrist. And don't worry about your parents finding out, they WILL, but you NEED their support right now. This activity can lead to accidental death.

find a good friend to talk to, you need to speak to someone.
went through a similar thing a couple of years ago, i found that i couldn't speak to anyone, i found a catholic priest who was able to help me, without going into too much religious stuff. it really helped.

you learn to deal with the pain.
cutting is just a way from hiding from it. I don't know what your situation is, but you must have friends or someone you can talk to...
stay busy, sidetrack yourself with something other than selfmutalation. i used to, i know what it's like to feel like theres no one there for you, but cutting just messed me up worse. i don't know, i could be wrong but cutting is usually used as an attention getter rather than an escape and to those who call it stupid, ignore them, they've either never been there or just don't remember what its like. its not stupid, theres just better options
