I just brought my 2 dogs out for a walk - I know the neighbor on the right uses "Driveway Heat" (Little pellets to melt ice/snow) so I don't bring my dogs out that way because it burns their paws so bad that they limp (I asked him to use pet friendly Ice Melt and he called me a crazy bi*ch and walked back in his garage).

I go left now, but apparently, my other neighbor has also purchased the same kind of pellets! I'M TRAPPED!

Should I talk to my other neighbor about pet-friendly ice melt? (I'm almost afraid to after the run in with the other neighbor...) or bite the bullet and go get the boys some snow boots so we don't have to worry about it? (I'm really against "Dressing them up", but they do have snow-coats for when it's really foul out...).

"Pet Friendly" ice melt is actually cheaper than the Driveway Heat they're buying!

There is no "Across the street" - It's a fenced Nature preserve...

It's IMMEDIATE - The minute it touches their paws it burns - I always wipe their paws when we get back from a walk.

They get out in the fenced yard too, but they like to go "Out" for walks.

You might try buying a few bags of the alternative deicer and taking it over to your other neighbor. They might be more amenable if they don't have to go to the bother of going out and getting the new stuff when they've just purchased what they're using.

Does it burn their paws immediately, or just after awhile? I know the ASPCA recommends that dogs get their paws wiped off after winter walks as there are various substances used by the neighbors AND the city to keep the sidewalks clear. If it doesn't bother them immediately, maybe just clean their paws off real good after the walks.

I'd still talk to the other neighbor too... offer to pay any difference in price or pick the stuff up for them if it's inconvenient (maybe they dont' sell it where they buy the other stuff?). Regardless though... I'd assume you're also walking by other houses and you can't possibly go talk to all of them. I'd just clean the paws or use booties if it bothers them right away. Good luck.

Tell your other neighbor to buy ice melt and that it is cheaper. Then, go to your other neighbor and tell him straight up that he is ..............you get the point. He deserves it. He is probably mad that he doesnt own a dog, he owns a cat. LOL!

can you walk acroos the street? what about a backyard?

if not, go against your preferences and make 'booties' for for your dogs. all you need is some old socks (who doesn't have any of these!!!) and cut the foot part off, then somehow covince your dog to keep them on (lol).
