Because of her forgetting things, I am blamed for her forgetfulness. She'll tell me one thing, and the next thing she'll forget, and say that she never said that. And my boss does not tell her anything. So I am pretty much blamed for things. If I were to ask her if I can record our conversation while making any decisions, would that be rude of me? I'm just trying to look out for myself. Now, she is real nice, and a sweetheart. I don't have a problem w/ her, just her memory. She's very active, and all. Not like uses a cane, walker or anything. She looks like she's in her early 50s-but she's not!.

Well she doesn't have a haring problem that's for sure. Like for ex: I was getting a Commode w/ detachable arms (w/ NO wheels), so I seen that we had one on stock but it had wheels and it was a heavy duty kind too, she said that was the one I was looking for, I told her "No, I believe this one is mobile, and heavy duty" she was sure that it was it. Since she is the Specialist on stuff like that, I just listened to her, and gave it to my pt. Well yesterday my boss (the owner of the company) asks me what happend to the Heavy duty mobile commode we had in stock, I told her I gave it to a patient. She said that it was the wrong one, I told her that "Jane Doe" said that was it. So "Jane Doe" said she did not say that. Now, I have a witness that heard her say that, but this witness and I are good friends, we even carpool. So my boss will probably be a little "iffy". What should I do???

I think I would ask her if you could write down stuff as she says it so you don't forget. Then show it to her and have her initial it. That way you look like a careful employee, but in reality, you're watching out for yourself.

There is no law about recording any conversation just using it for blackmail or taping on the phone. Just record anything and everything pertaining to her when you get enough like 3 'corrections' just play it for the boss and let him know there is a problem occuring. She could also be in the early stages of Alzheimers.. she could stave off the disease if she was fighting it in the early stages.

Even if you told the boss and he confronted her she would tell him she didn't say or do it. What you have to do is document everything. If the boss doesn't address this maybe there is someone in personnel you can talk to. This situation isn't fair to YOU! Really it's up to the boss to fix this one, but if he won't, go to someone else and tell them.If this IS the beginnings of Alzheimer's or something similar, they will pick up on it soon enough.

I was in supervision for years and nearly always wrote directions down. Even at a young age I didn't trust my memory with 22 people; so I agree with that idea.

Another possible reason for her "forgetfullness" just might be her hearing! Try talking from behind her, and see if she is able to hear you. Hopefully that is the case, rather than Alzheimer's, and it might be easier to persuade her to get a hearing test.

I'd use a tape recorder if I were you. If she asks, just tell her that you want to be sure and get it right. And I understand what you are going thru. I got blamed for a co-worker's mistake b/c they were not careful about an invoice.

I know someone like this. Telling me things then swearing she never told me. Frustrating! Talk to your boss about this. I don't think you'll fool her with that initializing things. She's forgetful, not stupid. Keep in mind you will be there someday.
