no you must get a biopsy. They can be somewhat sure if it is malignant, but will not be 100% certain until a biopsy is done.

No you cannot. As well, from personal experience even if an ultrasound comes back normal, push for additional tests. As for mammograms, i dont know about those. I went in for an ultrasound on my one breast because i had a lump, it came back normal, and they would have assumed it was fibrocystic breast disease.... funny thing (well, not so funny), i got sick, went to the hospital, found i had fluid in my lungs, they drained the fluid, found the lump, and did a biopsy. Turns out the lump was bigger than they thought, and actually originated in my chest. It turns out that this "nothing to worry about lump" was malignant cancer. Always push for more tests, and yes, a biopsy will determine if it is cancer, and if it is benign or malignant, but i dont believe mammograms or ultrasounds will....

You can see a cyst on an ultrasound, but not if a tumor is malignant. Sometimes they can suspect cancer by the shape of the tumor, but only can be sure after a biopsy has been done.

yes but not definite. the more solid and irregular the tumor is, the more likely it is malignant. the best way to identify its malignancy potential is by BIOPSY. ultrasound and mammograms are good screening tools to determine if you have abnormal growth or tumor somewhere in your breast but it could not absolutely determine if it is malignant. BIOPSY is still the best, that is, if you really have a lump there. so, it is best to have a mammogram or ultrasound first, if there is a finding, get it excised or incised then proceed to biopsy.

Hi!
The mammogram will only alert you to suspicious/abnormal growths. Only a biopsy will tell the truth.
A biopsy is sort of like sticking a toothpick in a cake to get a true idea of what is going on.
If it is any consolation, I have had some 'scares.' The main thing is: get the testing done!
My best wishes to you.

The most conclusive way to see if a cyst is benign, or cancerous is only by getting a breast Biopsy.

The doctor will need to take a biopsy to find out for sure what the cyst/tumor is.

No. The Dr. might be able to do a fine needle aspiration to draw fluid from it, if it is a cyst. Otherwise, a biopsy will be needed to be absolutely sure.

X-ray's and scans like mammography can only;y tell if there's a "mass" or something is broken. There's no way can it detect "what" kind of tissue the mass is. Only a biopsy, read by a Pathologist can tell what the type of tissue is present. Take care. SW RNP
