I am in desperate need of new straighteners, I have had;

- Remington Protect and Shine Sleek and Curl : Good, but broke within a year.
- Nicky Clarke Professional Straighteners : Bad, too bulky and not hot enough.
- Vidal Sassoon VS880UK Ceramic and Ionic Straighteners : Very bad, did nothing.

I'm looking for straighteners with thin plates, high temperature, heat-up quickly, and most importantly are the best at protecting my hair – I'm looking to pay around £40, maybe higher quality if I can afford it or better still if I can find them cheap on eBay.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

I'd particularly like to hear from hair dressers/stylists or people with good hair care knowledge – thumbs up if you know your stuff :-)

I've seen a lot of people recomend CHI's, but they aren't available in the UK at all by the looks of things.

use corilolis or something like that. Check it out , Its really good and help your hair stay frizz free all day everyday. Oh yea, its a 2 in 1 thing, you can curl your hair with it too and no need to use hair spray after that.

STOP! take some time to read this!

don't buy expensive straighteners. I have always had this problem and recently my straighteners broke because i dropped them on the floor.... So I bought some Toni and guy straighteners from boots for £20 reduced from about £35 I thought, just like you that the higher the price paid and the better the name Eg: Vidal Sassoon and Toni and guy the better they would work but no!

I have found the cheaper the straightener the better.
The straighteners that I dropped were £10 from ARGOS and were the best ones for my hair.... Ever!
I have now bought some new ones from ARGOS also for £10 they are called Visqu <-- I think that's how you spell it and they have a digital screen, + & - buttons to higher or lower the temperature. They go up to 200 degrees which is very hot. My hair is naturally all over the place Eg: kinky and wavy and these straightners do my hair perfect. So its not the name or the price, in fact i have found out the cheaper the better. These straightners also have thin ceramic plates and dont snag the hair. The toni and guy ones i bought had mirrors for the plates and on the box it said 'get hair as smooth as glass' this was not true they snagged my hair terrible they were rubbish....

So the moral of the story? ARGOS it!!!

Hope i have helped!

GHD's are the best on the market and used by the professionals, If cash is limited then go for Remingtons, i know they dont last forever but very good for their price. I use GHDs but bought my daughter Remingtons. As with any heat appliance on hair always use a protective spray or serum, heat damages the gair and will make it dry/snap/split. If you can get the money get GHDs, lifetime guarantee says it all, they have trust in their product.

Ghd`s are still the best around in my opinion and i think paying that little bit extra for them is worth it,they heat up really quick and there is 3 different sizes of plates to choose from and they`re not bulky either.Still my no`1 choice.

Without a doubt Toni and Guy glass straighteners are the best around. They heat up quickly to a high temperature.Always use a heat seal when using them tho.I can recommend label m or Paul Michell.

The Paul Mitchell straightener is amazing. My stylist uses everytime she straightens my extremely curly hair. However, you have to get the straightener through a stylisty or someone who has their beauty license as they not readily available to the public. You CAN find them on ebay, but they are overpriced.
I use a jilbere tourmaline straightener. I love it. It was about $50 US Dollars at beauty supply stores, and it is more expensive at other retailers.

Its well worth looking at the hair and beauty wholesalers. Even if you don't have a trade card you can still buy from them. Have a look in the yellow pages. CHS are a good brand of straighteners that can only be bought at wholesalers and they are on sale at the moment

Try t3s. You can get them from www.lookfantastic.com

They can heat up to 410 degrees. Theyre made from crushed tourmaline crystal, really good for flyaway hair too. Your looking at about £100 for a pair. I prefer them to ghds and find they dont damage my hair as much.

look fantastic also do other products at a cheaper price. e.g. paul mitchell shampoo. tigi shampoo and make up.

check it out. Its a good website.

GHDs are always a step higher than any other brands in my experience. Make sure to use a protecting/straightening spray before you straighten...
