Go to a beauty supply store and get professional hair lightener and developer (volume 40), a plastic haircolor mixing bowl and brush, and a toner in an ash/cool shade to neutralize the brassy roots. The stuff you can get at walmart is crap.
It would cost more at the salon, but it would actually be better in the long run. But if you decide to do it at home anyway, make sure you thoroughly read and understand the instructions that come with the product.
Also, get a shampoo and conditioner for color-treated hair.

it's weird that you say only your roots come out this way-because of your body heat the roots are usually the first to lighten and sometimes lighten more than the rest. If you have previous color on it this could be affecting it. My guess is that it's just not lifting enough. very few people can use color to make themselves a blonde. My hair is a dark dirty blonde naturally and if I use color to make me light blonde it still gets super gold. I have to lighten it first with bleach and then tone it a nice blonde color. Not a process I suggest doing yourself...trust me it will end up costing you more in the end to fix. : )

Apparently you have been using a hair color that is not the best thing for your hair. With that being said, before coloring your hair I suggest that you remove any hair coloring left in your hair by using a hair color remover such as the Loreal Color Zap. Also be sure not to wash your hair for a couple of days before coloring. Just to give your hair time to get back all of its natural oils. Your hair will be ready for recoloring in no time. What I recommend is exploring the Loreal Feria Blonde Collection. I personally recommend the Loreal Feria #120 Platinum Crystal Hi-Lift Ash Blonde. It is a lovely cool ash Blonde that's never brassy. After coloring your hair lather your hair with mayonaise. I know it sounds crazy but mayonaise serves as a coating that adds essential nutrients to your hair. Just rinse out afterwards. Then It's time to put on leave in conditioner to your hair. With these tips your hair will look fab and glam. For your hair to maintain its look you must repeat this process once a month for optimal results.

I use to dye my sister's hair all the time blonde and I would use the Feria (I can't remember the number) but you will know it when you see it and it was great and her hair is a dark brown and it worked wonders, just remember to keep your hair conditioned and watch the time when you apply it. Also after you apply the color, place a plastic cap over your head and then wrap a towel around your head and this speeds up the process.

Roots turn orange when you are attempting too much lift. Use 40 vol. developer (beauty supply) and a color with cool or ash in the name to conteract warmth. Just be careful to only do the roots and minimize as much overlap as possible. If you have dark hair, you may have to use bleach, which is a whole nother' question. Let me know if you need more help.

well u could use one of those loreal ones wich looks kind of professional (for the urself doing thing) but remember, dying ur hair way too many times is not good for your hair. Try to dye ur hair with a color u would at least keep more than the others.

I am not sure what color your natural hair is..but if you have dark hair and you are putting a blond on it, it will be a brasy red or orangey color. You should bleach your roots first, to have the same blond color.
