In general, colds last for 7-14 days, but symptoms may not last that long. Also, there are MANY "common cold" viruses, and each one may present different severity and length of symptoms.

7 - 10 days is average but coughing etc. can last longer. If it's longer than two weeks or you continue to have a sore throat, got to the doctors as it could be strep or sinus infection. I find that colds do clear up much faster if I make it a point to get to bed really early and add several hours to my normal sleep time every night, same with my daughter and husband. Feel Better!

Rule of thumb for colds
3 days coming
3 days with you
3 days going
total of nine days it seems to work for me and gives you a light at the end of the tunnel when you are feeling really down

5-7 days. If you dislike medications, a very strong tea made from red pepper flakes will alleviate chest congestion. I use it often.

I had to answer this one. For me it is about a week. If you drink plenty of liquid, and take a lot of over the counter medications and home remedies, it only takes about 7 days! LOL

7 - 10 days. Colds are caused by viruses and cannot be treated with any antibiotic.
