It does sound a lot like a "panic" attack, are you going through anything stressful? Taking a drug like Xanax in a controlled situation under a docs care will not make you dependent. For every horror story about dependency there are tons of people who successfully use meds for the purpose they are prescribed with no problems. I have a friend who uses Xanax periodically as prescribed and she told me it's no different than having a glass of wine, it just takes the edge off. This is also what they gave my husband for his MRI. If it doesn't work, you just call the doctor and get something else. Be well, and you are adding to your stress by worrying about the meds.

Hi; Registered Nurse here; Sounds as if though you may be experiencing anxiety/panic disorders. Now your afraid of Xanax, and I respect this very much, however do you trust your physician? If not you need to find another one. Xanax is very addictive, having said this, there is also millions of people who take Xanax and never become dependent on it. Drug seeking individuals frequently do, for they take the amount they want, when they want, and also use it as a form of recreation if you will. Xanax was made for people with anxiety/panic disorders, and nervousness. Majority of people who truly suffer from the above diagnosis, usually do not become dependent, for they follow the prescribed dose as ordered by there physician. Xanax gets a bad report frequently because of people who abuse the drug. My advice is take it exactly as your physician prescribed, no more, and take it less if you see that you don't need it. Let me also share with you Anxiety can become very crippling in itself. Yes there is all kinds of self help tapes, relaxation tapes, behavior modification. You could spend 10 years in therapy and still be anxious. Another symptom of Anxiety is being fearful of taking medications. I strongly recommend you discussing your fears and hesitation with this medication with your physician. He or she are the best to alleviate your fears, or perhaps the two of you can choose an alternate medication. As for horror stories about medications, I can tell you horror stories from Asaprin, as well as just about any other medication on the market. It's up to the individual not to abuse the medication.

I would go see another doctor and get a second opinion. Some of those symptoms sound like potential heart problems so I would really press to have that looked at. It could be something small and maybe is really serious. Perhaps you are under a lot of stress? You also might want to make sure you have a good diet and eat only good food. I prefer eating nuts, vegetables and fruits as the bulk of my food intake. I go very sparingly on anything with saturated fat or with processed sugars or flours. Perhaps consider cutting back on the coffee if you drink a lot of that. Again, see another doc and make sure everything is ok.

Do you feel anxious a lot- if so you need to take time to breath. The back, neck and shoulder pain with the tension could be explained my a misalignment of the spine. You can go to a chiropractor to get it treated. The rest of sounds like anxiety though in which case you do need to be treated.

I think you need a second opinion. The dizzy lightheaded part causes concern. Maybe you have an inner ear infection making you dizzy? I'd check out other causes first before you start taking xanax - they are addicting so you're right to be cautious about taking them. Good luck.

You may just have really tight joints and muscles. I am a massage therapist and I would reccomend getting a massage or going to phisio therapy. I wouldnt take the pills if I was you because you dont want to be dependent. This may sound weird but acupuncture ar acupressure will also help you. Good luck!

I don't know what Xanax is or does, but I would trust your doctor. I'm not sure about dependency either but I'm guessing there are was to get you off. For example, taking you off slowly.

i don't have those symptoms but maybe to keep yourself from becoming dependent you could only take it when the symptoms get bad instead of all the time...
