Don't get desperate, never ask him out, let the guy do the work, but you can hint (light flirting, not too much, you'll scare him). It's not lady like to ask anyone out. Just be patient, get to know him and have a good time. If he just started sitting with you, you want him to get accustomed, he might already feel like asking you out but would like to wait a bit, and he probably don't know how, so just give him some time and be patient. Enjoy your friendship, friendship is a beautiful thing.

He might just be doing that because you said you like him and he might be trying some sort of game with you. I am amsuming that you are young like in High school or something. He also might like you too. why dont you ask him if he likes you. If he says yes ask him out on a date. Like go get coffee or an ice cream so you guys can get to know each other more. DO NOT go to a movie you can never get to know a person there. GOod luck!

He's probaly scared to and doesn't know how to ask or what you would like to do. You might help him out and mention a movie or something that you've been wanting to see and see if he picks up on the hint.

maybe he likes the fact that you stepped up first, and is shy so hes hoping you'll step up again. Just ask him
"so when are we gonna hang out outside of school?" that breaks the ice and gives him the greenlight to take action into his own hands

ok way to take a hint, try asking him depending on the type of guy he is it differs but since he responded clearly to your liking him he is obviously interested and it will make asking him when alot easier
