People call it a break because they are just prolonging the inevitable.
They think that they can go out and see other people and it will either make them realize that they are still in love with their partner or will confirm that they no longer love them.
Either way, the damage has been done and it is over.
I guess it is a form of denial...
This is also what one partner tells the other when they want to break up but the other person gets so upset they feel guilty, "it is just a break baby, don't worry... I love you".
Again, just prolonging the inevitable.

A convenient excuse...some use the "lets take a break" idea to check out other options...most of the time it's the end of the relationship (the beginning of the end) but sometimes people do reunite and make a go of it...
The only relationship I've ever been in where he wanted a "break" ended up ending shortly thereafter...that was his way of breaking up w/o having to breakup (right then)...I won't be fooled by that line again...people might sometimes need a break from each other, but if you need a break from your relationship, then it's probably pretty much over...

Obviously. It's just a "I don't want to step up" way of dumping. That way, when the partner comes back wanting that promised relationship to start again, the other can say, "Oh, uhhmmm... Well, we're kinda on break and I kinda like this other chick... I duno I'm sorry?"

I know a guy who use to break up with his g/f every time he wanted to have s*x with another girl. He didn't want to "cheat on her". BS! It's breaking up! Don't take him back!

i agree --- if there are problems they need to sort them out not run away ---- it will make the relationship stronger to work through problems
